Who would be a good fit for Fields?

As I've said previously you look at spots like the Rams or Jets also where they have their guy for a year and both are older and thus injury prone.

Fields is due a 5th year option in 2025, if not a full extension. Doesn't make sense for the Rams (or Broncos, Browns) who are tied to their QBs via big money contracts for 2-3 more seasons. Jets are different, depending on their read of what Rodgers will do.

And one more thing.

You can take the Giants and Washington out of the conversation for new QB's. For better or worst the Gmen are committed to Jones. And Howell in WA is almost assured of getting one more year as he hasnt looked completely awful.

Teams that might change QB:
Bears
Falcons
Vikings
Bucs
Raiders
Pats
(missing any???)

And we have Maye and Williams taking two of those spots. Cousins taking one other. That leaves only 3 spots. A couple of those teams will take guys like Penix, Nix and Sanders and be looking for a place holder.

Sam Darnold
Baker Mayfield
Justin Fields
Ryan Tannehill
Gardner Minshew
Josh Dobbs

It really is just a numbers game. And when you factor in that Fields will cost you a draft pick (even if it is only a 5th rounder) and that you cant run a traditional offense with him will certainly play into whether he gets a spot or not.

Fields is going to cost a lot more than a 5th rounder IMO. He's a rookie contract QB for another season with a 5th year option looming. I would expect at least a 2nd if not more. The Bears shouldn't trade him if he only brings a 5th rounder.

I think he would be a good fit on the Falcons.

If AOC doesn't prove to be a legit starter I wouldn't mind the Raiders trading for him. As long as the Bears aren't asking for a lot in return. He would have a lot of offensive talent to work with.

You really need a new nickname for O'Connell.

I wouldn't expect the Browns or Broncos to trade for him obviously. I get the point in terms of the Rams having to "buy in" while having Stafford as well

I don't see the Rams. They could bring back Wentz next season also.

No need to give up draft capital.

The Patriots are trading out of the 1st round let's face that.. Bill (if he is still there) won't make a pick. You know he will trade out of r6 7th round picks and a 2028 3rd round pick
If Hoody the mumbler is still here and has a say, you are correct and he will grab the QB from the School for Blind in later round

I'll echo Atlanta. I thought they'd trade for Tannehill last year.

Steelers probably #2 although you'd have to think he'd be fighting for the starting spot. Steelers go after re-treads and I think Tomlin would get the most out of him. They also just fired their OC so maybe they are open to new options on offense.

I'd probably have staying on the Bears #3. Use more picks to rebuild.

I have no idea what the Patriots are doing moving forward. I could see a scenario where he goes that way and some that he doesn't.

No one is picking up that 5th year option. They have to do it before the start of next season. He is going to be a 1 year rental to see what you have and not anything more than that. The team would be guaranteeing about $25M to a guy that over the last 3 years has looked like a bust.

Because of that the 4th rounder the 49ers got for Lance is more or less the market value. I would be shocked at anything more than that.

.....

I still dont think most people understand just how broken Fields has looked most of the time. Great legs. But his ability to process and get the ball out on time is a real problem. The bears offense actually performed just as well with Bagent in the offense despite the fact that he was just awful and didnt make any of the splash plays that Fields makes. But that is because Bagent processed and got the ball out on time and didnt have the negative plays that come with Fields at QB.

Bagent sacks taken: 5 in 5 games. 1 sacks per game
Fields sacks taken: 29 in 8 games. 3.625 sacks per game.

Splash plays arent worth it if you are taking drive killing sacks all the time.

And this isn't last years Bears. The OL and the WR's aren't going to be confused for the Eagles positional groups anytime soon. But they quickly went from bottom of the league to at least average in both areas. I personally really, really underrated Moore. Dude is a legit top 10 WR guy. I didnt think that when they made the trade for him but he is the real deal.

HAHA!! AND a Special Teams guy coming off two ACL tears
Makes sense BB didn't want to give Brady the 2 yr contact for 50 mill to retire here, but had the highest paid longsnapper in the NFL and first guy to draft 2 special team specialist in the same draft. Not only did he get fined for violating OTA rules with ST practice but our ST sucks and I feel bad for future Patriots HOFer Slater

I do think the negative plays with Fields are a big deal whether its sacks or fumbles. I also probably think he is only worth a 4th rounder because whoever picks him up will have him competing for a starting job and not starting. If you're giving a 2nd rounder for him then you're saying that Fields is your starter. There might not be a market for that.

That sack stat is misleading. Those aren't conventional sacks, instead are the result of extending plays behind the line (much like the increased sack totals for Russell Wilson, Jalen Hurts and Lamar Jackson).

A 4th rounder for a constantly injured Lance isn't a good indicator IMO. Fields has viable game tape, both with the NFL Bears and the high level NCAA Buckeyes. Lance has one season with North Dakota in 2019 to fall back on, nothing much else. Even Zach Wilson has more good game tape than Lance.

Well maybe you should take those damn black SUVs off my watch and send them to Kraft...
Black SUV's is the government, you're not selling secrets to China are you? I tried selling a Patriots playbook to the other NFL 31 teams, I got laughed at and mocked, WTF?

One team isnt really a market. Im also not 100% sure the Bears would trade him to an NFC playoff team. I think if multiple teams showed interest in Fields then you're getting somewhere. We've seen how QBs work in the NFL. They're either worth everything or nothing. There isnt much of a middle ground.
