Why do you think it shameless for to identify the other bench option that might be called on to pinch hit. Guy didn't want to see AG or BS coming off the bench and I simply asked if he preferred YT off the bench.

Relevant to my point ... Clutch Stats for YT 2012

2 Outs RISP (21ABs): .190/.320/.190/.510 ... w/5Ks

Late & Close (23ABs): .130/.167/.174/.341 ... w/6Ks

Tie Game (26ABs): .192/.300/.231/.531 ... w/4Ks

Behind (60ABs): .183/.210/.267/.476 ... w/13Ks

Ahead (72ABs): 278/.349/.431/.780 ... w/13Ks

So ... looks like the only time you call on him in the clutch is if you are ahead. Not really relevant though because as the backup catcher he's not going to be called on to PH. Unfortunately when he starts ... his performance in clutch ABs is pretty dismal.

So I'm not the one who is shameless ... YT is.

James Shields has emerged as a pitcher of significant interest to several teams. The Rangers seem to be high on that list, Sullivan writes, and Ken Gurnick reports that the Dodgers also have an eye on the Tampa Bay right-hander. Shields isn't having a great year, but he was an AL Cy Young Award contender last year. And he's been tremendously durable, which is an advantage over someone like Marlins ace Josh Johnson.

Texas ranks Greinke and Shields at the top of its priority list, while the Dodgers still seem to be focused on Dempster. If that can't get done, Shields would be an option for Los Angeles. He could potentially land with either Los Angeles team, actually, since the Angels have interest as well. Shields has the benefit of a very club-friendly contract, with team options through 2014.

Above taken from Greinke, starters remain hot commodities | MLB.com: News

I don't get where all the James Shields talk is coming from. I don't feel like he's better than anyone we're running out there this year. Maybe he'll be dominant again next year, but I'm under the impression we want someone to help us get to and win in the playoffs this year.

I think the shields talk is a smoke screen for something else and to distract the Angels FO.

I hope you're right. I was looking at his numbers, and he actually has the highest K/9 innings and highest GB/FB ratio of his career this season. His xFIP this season is 3.46. He still scares me though.

Phillies Won't Trade Cliff Lee
By Ben Nicholson-Smith [July 27 at 12:13pm CST]

The Phillies won't trade Cliff Lee before the July 31st trade deadline, Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports. Furthermore, the Phillies have no plan to consider trading Lee in August, when players can be dealt after being placed on waivers. Something would have to change for the team to consider trading Lee, Heyman writes.

The Rangers had been scouting Lee, and viewed him as a long-shot alternative to Zack Greinke, Josh Johnson and James Shields. The Rangers would have asked the Phillies to cover a substantial portion of Lee's salary in any trade, Heyman writes. Lee, 33, earns $25MM per season from 2013-15, so there’s a chance he’d clear waivers. His contract includes a $12.5MM buyout for a $27.5MM option in 2016.

Lee can block trades to 21 teams, but the Yankees, Braves and Marlins are not on his no-trade list, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reported today (Twitter links). Phillies officials intend to build around Lee, Roy Halladay and the recently-extended Cole Hamels, Heyman reports.

I'm sure JD hangs up the phone quicker than the marlins can blink. Lmfao at them asking the moon for Johnson after dealing infante and Ramirez for wet toilet paper. They've already screwed themselves.

How true can that be ?

Yup, as soon as they say "Profar" I'd hang up. Then 5 minutes later I'd call back and explain that the laughter in Arlington was too much and now that we have our breaths back we'd like a real starting line.
