To me, this is a throwaway type year that they'll use as an opportunity to show loyalty to Geno Smith for his time as backup. They'll run him out there as the starter for a season while they figure out a way to mop up this mess for '23 and beyond. The other vets on the team will support it, and Geno has paid the dues in the league needed to get the young players to listen. He won't be good or anything, but it's easy for me to envision this happening given who our HC is.

Jimmy G is intriguing, but only if it's basically for nothing (a free agent signing if SF cuts him, or for like a 5th round or later pick). Looks like SF saves around $25M if he's cut, and '22 is the last year of his deal...

I just don't see how PC/JS would be fine with just throwing this season away or how Jodi would sign off on that.

Well, in their minds putting Geno Smith out there probably isn't a throwaway. They did it with T-Jack though in '11 as the bridge between the previous long term starter and the next. Current situation is similar in a few ways.

I guess. If they wind up with somewhere around 8 wins, I can see that being a sign of a rebuild in action that is setting up for the future.

But fewer than 5 wins, I think, would be a pretty terrible outcome that could put them both in jeopardy especially if Russ has a lot of success in Denver.

I am definitely expecting around a 5 win season, and I am also expecting Russell to do well in Denver. The Broncos new HC is regarded as a sharp offensive mind, and he's probably wetting himself thinking about the QB situation he's now walking into...plus a nice pair of WRs (Courtland Sutton & Jerry Jeudy).

There is talk we’re considering Deshaun Watson… If we give up draft picks for Watson, Pete has officially lost it…

Id rather tank a year and take a shot at a qb in 23 than waste anything on watson

I agree. Please, stay away from Watson.

Screw trading for Jimmy. What does that do for Seahawks? Sure he’s better then Lock but he’s not taking the Seahawks anywhere. Winning a extra game or two does not matter, in fact the Seahawks should just write off wins in 2022.
To me he'd be a stop gap for a year or two. He wouldn't be brought in to win a championship, because that ain't happening with this team even if we had Peyton Manning in his prime. Jimmy would be brought in for enjoyment purposes only. He's a fun guy to watch, always seems to be having a good time, players love him, etc. I'm not looking to "win" these next couple of years, so all I want is to watch Seahawks games on Sundays and at least enjoy myself a little.

I remember when I got my Wilson Jersey for Christmas 2012 and my sister was like Put it on. I said nope and hung it up and a season later it was signed and mounted in a frame covered in glass. Going to hold onto it till I am old and gray.

If a team is going to trade away the franchise I guess it had to be the Seahawks. Of course it had to be.

Makes zero sense to resign Penny now when you think about it.
A buddy of mine went to a charity auction in 2012 and bought me an autographed Seahawks helmet signed by a rookie nobody named Russell Wilson. That's in my man cave in a glass case and I consider something akin to having a Wayne Gretzky signed rookie card.

Yeah I'm not here for happiness and sunshine.

I soured on PC 2 seasons ago when it was clear that he fielded a defense that was woefully unprepared for the season. We got lucky with a midseason Dunlap trade and the team got better but then we saw the SAME THING this year.

No way Paul Allen keeps PC and dumps Russ if he were still around. This happened because Jody Allen is a caretaker owner waiting till she can sell the Seahawks, I think, next year.
A group of former players including Kam, Baldwin, and Beastmode have expressed interest in buying into minority ownership. It would be interesting to have a bunch of former Seahawks in that role but I can't imagine they could get a large percentage.

There are also rumors that Paul Allen has stipulations in his trust that would only allow a sale under specific circumstances and restrictions. I can't find too much about it but I suppose it is a possibility.

I believe the Allen estate can't sell the team until next year.

Yes, but the that supposedly isn't the only stipulation. I don't think there are further details made public on the trust rules. But I guess we might find out next year?

How do you figure?

PC/JS aren't going to blow the whole thing up, at least in their minds. I'm sure they have convinced themselves that some other QB can be had that will be as good as Russ or nearly as good.

You dump your all star future HoF QB but hold onto a often injured RB? that makes zero sense. They also part ways with Bobby Wagner, this is a rebuild and Penny all though good is not a RB to build around. He is more often NOT on the field than on it and he is going to be 27 at the end of the year, the age must RB start to decline. What is there to figure? It's called being frugal and understanding your situation. They are not going to compete for a Championship next year so a good RB that can't stay on the field is not something you carry. You release them and find reliable durable plays even if they are a step down. Someone that can play 16 games a season is better than someone who plays only 8 games a season at a high level.

Someone brought up Jodi "selling" the team. well she just lost like 500 million Plus in Team value by trading Wilson lol OR more. Yeah that 3.5 Billion price tag will take a MASSIVE hit.

Wish there was a way to land gardner Minshew. I feel for that guy I think he could start in the league he made the jaguars look like a fun team. I would much prefer him to be a stop gap QB than Drew Lock or any free agent QB.

Penny isn't going to be some huge cap hit.

This just seems like you just don't want Penny at any cost. That seems short sighted. Travis Homer doesn't get hurt very much. He seems to fit your requirements.
