His logic was guys are throwing 100 and he doesn't want those slipping.

But to hear a player (a relatively young one) outright trashing the league is eye opening.

Add to that the delay last year getting a deal agreed upon, the pettiness of using the DH as a bargaining chip, there seems to be a lot of out in the open hostility.

Anyone that thinks this is a recent development they're delusional. This goes all the way back to the late 1800's. I still think the offensive struggles have far more to do with MLB fucking with the balls than the pitchers applying substances to the balls. This just seems like a convenient scapegoat.

Ok that is good logic as you are right most guys are throwing that fast now.. I know I wouldn't want to take a Chapman fastball anywhere

The league is going downhill and they've tried to make the game more popular for the younger generation and have failed miserably

Alonso might have a different opinion if he knew the rate of HBP's in 2021 has been at an all time high.

baseball is the worst run sport out there... they constantly look for cheating scandals... Baseball already has the reputation of everyone cheating...

I love the conspiracy theory that the doctored ball is based on free agency... didnt think of it, but i can actually agree with the premise... These owners dont get the benefit of doubt anymore...

Another bad look for the league. At this point I'll be surprised if there's more than 3 months of baseball next year.

I agree with him. I do think it's unfair to suddenly enforce a rule like that midseason. I don't think it was very smart of him to come out like that, though.

There is going to be a stoppage. The MLBPA has to have a strike otherwise they are done as a viable union.

Heck, the spitter was allowed in MLB until 1920. And even then, those who relied on the spitter as a primary pitch had it "grandfathered" until retirement. In those days they used chewing tobacco and other substances...of course, much of that was during the deadball era where the balls were pretty chopped up due to the fact the umpires tried to retrieve balls hit into the stands, so they could use fewer balls during a game.

Gaylord Perry was the master of disguise when it came to substance on the baseballs. But then, the game seemed a lot more interesting during that time period.
