I had my doubts when he was at OU. Really nice college player but he was good because he was physically better than the defense. He's still not fast but now he's not stronger than the defense. But from everything I heard he's a good teammate.

Yea I liked him coming out last year and he does seem like a good guy but last year was super disappointing. At this point I think we have to look for another option and if he can turn it around awesome.

You really can't have too many DLmen anyways

Its just odd that people think..

A defense that was last in the league against the run
In a Division that Has Elliot who we play against twice a year
In a Division that might end up with Barkley in NY

The biggest need for the defense is to draft a safety. :noidea:

I definitely all else equal would rather have a DLmen than a Safety. I just dont know if Fitzpatrick is some crazy prospect we couldnt pass up. Im a little behind on defensive prospects right now.

Thing is, on the right defense, I think Fitzpatrick has the potential to be an elite safety.

I also think our defense is two GOOD D-lineman and an edge rusher away from being that defense. So while I would expect highlight plays, and pro bowls from him.... we dont need another super star on a bottom ten defense at the moment.

If Fitzpatrick can be elite, and the DL cannot, then take Fitzpatrick. We can get a good DL next season because we will be picking very high.

Naw, all of ya'll are wrong...If we could ONLY manage to bring Kirk Cousins back, our defense would be good enough to get us 10 wins, a playoff berth and possibly a win in the first round of the playoffs. It's magical :D.

(Shhhhhhh, don't tell 'em they won't be able to figure it out!)

We needed talent WITH him, what's changed? History says this team is a middle of the road franchise, under Snyder worse, and there's talk of doing better? Really?

I know that there's a lot of ass cramps being experienced since Kirk left and everything resulting from that, but ANYONE expecting anything different, is delusional and those cramps are self inflicted.

Oh I agree, we needed talent in either case.

But there is a whole lot of we got a better QB, and people screaming for that talent now. Where as a year ago, the same talking heads were of the mind set that if Kirk was worth what he was asking for, well he should have been able to carry the team.

Fine, we all have differing opinions, mine is no different, at QB, it's a wash. See?

Kirk was NOT worth what he was asking for, neither was Smith, both of these thing can be true at the same time. Just as Kirk couldn't carry this team and neither can Smith. Let's NOT forget, in this crazy QB above team era, They man the MOST dependent position in all of football. At least that has NOT changed.

Again.. who said safety doesnt matter. My point is, Safety is the sexy pick when your run defense is and has been the worst run defense in the league for years now. Until such time as the Redskins really fix the run defense, all a pick of one of these safetys does is give us a gu who will sell Jerseys for dan, make a pro bowl or two, and we will still wonder why this is a 8-8 team with a defense that cant protect a lead or get the offense the ball back.
You've certainly implied it and continue to.

SO why dont I clear that up for you.

Yes a safety does matter. But when your defense has been dead last or close to it at stopping the run for years, when you have ignored the D-line. Safety is not the #1 priority to improve your team or your defense. If Fitzpatrick or Ward are there, and there isnt a D-lineman left on the board worthy of the #13 pick.. fine take the better value. But the whole draft him because he could be "Special" when the heart of your defense (the line) is still average at best is more about flash and fan excitement than improving the team.

What you're doing there is talking out of both sides of your... mouth. You've been wasting my time.

Exactly, focus on stopping the run, (front 7) and worry about the backend once you get the real problem solved. We really need 2 top end DL and a possible Foster replacement away from solving the current issues in the run defense.

Shark has never said safety is unimportant. He has said DL is far more important. I agree.

I’ll have to side with you and Shark on this one. BPA at a major position of need. Games are often truly “won and lost in the trenches”. Elite OL or DL trumps a S if they are equal.
