With his recent success, the price is going to be stiff. Will the Cubs move him or not? I am hearing reports that Theo has their system stacked, which adds another element of strategy to it. Are they going to try to compete next season or be conservative and have a plan for season-after-next, in which case moving Garza for top prospects makes sense?

It's going to be interesting! 18 days til the deadline.

The cubs are 2 years away minimum. They'd be smart to trade him. One thing people fail to consider though is the rule instituted 2 years ago that does give teams a compensatory first round pick if their 1/2 year rental walks. Therefore teams will be willing to offer less for a 2 month rental since they'll get nothing in return when/if they don't re-sign.

Chicago shouldn't be expecting the caliber of players/prospects that a true #1 would bring because Garza is not a #1. He's a borderline #2 to upper tier #3. Something a little better than what they got for dempster last year maybe. I'm hoping Texas gets him. We need him badly.

Meh, the only information that's out there from the cubs is out there because Epstein wants it there. Garza will command what the market dictates. Plain and simple.

That wasn't supposed to say "doesn't give teams a compensatory pick".

You know the Dodgers and Pirates have to be very interested. Pittsburgh is in a very enviable position right now.

Pittsburgh is the other team I could really see making a push for him. They might inclined to give more too because of how long then been left out of October.

This is exactly why Epstein started making noise about signing Garza to a three year deal, to drive up the price. I guess it's not beyond consideration that the Cubs re-sign him, but I seriously doubt. Still, he won't be cheap. I'd like to see the Rangers get him, and I think Soriano being packaged with him is a real possibility.

Yeah, it's pretty basic marketing and he's been helped immensely by Garza exceeding expectations since coming back. I will be anxious to see him do well against the Cards today.

Signing Garza to an extension only works if Theo plans to contend next year and we all know he's too smart for that, unless he's been given a mandate, and I seriously doubt that. The Cubs have to know that the Cards and Pirates are set to be a force in the division for at least another season. I think they should target '15, which means Garza needs to go.

Also interesting to hear is that Garza wants to stay and would be willing to offer a discount on a three year extension. So who knows?

Garza goes 6-1/3 with one earned tonight. His stock just went up a little more.

He'd actually make a very nice fit with the Padres.

Reports on MLB trade rumors indicate he might be traded before his next start.

Wouldn't be the least bit surprised. I don't see him making another start for the Cubs.

Makes sense. Why risk a bad start when is value is about as high as its gonna get?

Here's another crazy idea: the Cardinals. They've certainly got the prospects to do it.

Sure they do. But do they really need him?

Well, say they're worried about Lynn running out of gas and they aren't ready to trust one of the kids in a high pressure situation...like I said, it's crazy...but ya never know...
