I'm glad someone mentioned Kang, who is putting up really nice numbers (and the power appears to be coming around now, too), with plus defense at third and passable defense at short.

But yeah, I've got one of Bryant or Syndergaard for the NL ROY. And Correa, to me, is a runaway in the AL.

grichuk in NL and Correa in AL
I had not even noticed him before I started really looking into this today.

RIGHT NOW, He may be on my ballot. Behind Pederson, who I think is the top rookie in the NL right now, I think I have, in no particular order...

Duffy
Grichuk
Heston

Bryant's numbers just dont match up to Duffy and Grichuk. Damn close, but they are not there. Franco is close, but with about the same number of ABs, he does not compare to Grichuk. Heston and Thor are very comparable, but Heston has 40 additional innings with 2 CG and the no-no. His K numbers are scary good, though...

Tomas is batting a rather empty .296 and plays crap defense

He's pretty much top ten in every category you just mentioned and the all star break was barely two weeks ago. The season doesn't end in July.

Which isn't saying much since there aren't many full-time rookie position players. I mean, there are only 17 NL rookies with at least 200 plate appearances.

He's got a nice average, but nothing else on his resume so far has been good by any means. Doesn't have a good OBP, doesn't hit for power, and doesn't provide much value on the bases or in the field.

Yasmany Tomas hit a home run tonight. Still has less than Alex Guerrero (who sucks and hasn't hit a home run since July 31st). There are 34 qualified rookies with a better on-base percentage than Tomas.

Now that it's September, I still don't think we should consider him for Rookie of the Year.

Looking at it with just a couple weeks left, I think Bryant has it locked up.

Who will get second is anybody's guess, though. I suspect there may be more players recieving votes this year than have received votes in a long time.

Kang, Duffy, Schwarber, Heston, Sydergaard, Pederson, Grichuk, DeSclafani are all legit contenders to receive at least one third place vote. Kang, Duffy and DeSclafani will probably all end up top 5.

Agree. It's Bryant's award. The Lindor/Correa race in the AL is pretty awesome. No bad choice between the two.

Don't forget Sano in the AL, but Correa and Lindor are clearly 1 & 2 as of now.

Bryant is a given at this point, but Kang and Syndergaard should get some votes, too.

By the numbers, I think DeSclafani is the clear #1 rookie pitcher with Thor and Heston duking it out for #2. None of them are real contenders for the award this year, though.

I expect Duffy to end up #2. While his numbers are not HUGE like they were earlier, he is still putting up consistant solid numbers and playing above average D. He got a lot of attention in the second half as well, so I think that will carry him quite a bit. Kang is, IMHO, the only other REAL contender for #2.

The prob is that the #2 and #3 slots on the ballots are used a lot for favoritism by the writers, so there really is no telling who will be left off ballots and what minor players will receive BS votes.

So two of the best rookie pitchers in the NL were traded by the Jays in that godawful offseason?
