I don't see it that way at all.

He had an excellent regular season. He's still theoretically improving. In time...

And that's fine. You can judge your own list how you want. I was explaining mine and how I got to my rankings.

But by "now" you seem to think it must be based solely on results of the current season. Pryor seasons and expectations for next year don't matter?

Based on the fact that LeBron is 34 and had the worst season since his rookie year (for many reasons) I am knocking him down. It is more likely than not that his best days are in the past.

Also, I happen to believe that the caliber and depth of the elite players across the league is as great as it has ever been.

You gotta knock him off to take his spot.

KD is right there, but I've never seen him do what I've seen LBJ do. And I don't think LeBron has fallen off other than this year went off the rails for his whole franchise. Those two have talents and skill sets that others are not capable of. Despite ungodly athletic ability.

My list could be very different this time next year.

He didn't get knocked off?

Team misses the playoffs, and he posts the worst efficiency stats in over 12 years.

I think he got knocked off.

2014 LeBron still drags this group to 50 wins.

Yeah, but it's also not an all time list. It's a right now list. Right now, Giannis, IMO is clearly the best player in the NBA. With the way he's elevated his team to the best record in the NBA, being 1a or 1b at the very minimum in the MVP race and being the GUY on the Bucks makes him the best player, RIGHT NOW.

This.

That is what we have to work on though.

If Giannis plays poorly and the Bucks lose in round 2, I will take him off my top line.

Right now though?

Number 1.

Well ahead of an injured 34 year old whose team missed the playoffs.

I do expect my list to look different in a month or two.

One playoff series won't sway my opinion much.

Four could.

Healthy LBJ had them with home court in the first round.

I'm not holding a bad/injured half season against him enough to drop him. If KD wins another Finals MVP I might though.

It shouldn't.

But also silly to say he needs a title.

Because GS is winning this year.

And really, KD should have the top spot if knocking off LeBron and winning rings is the criteria

I am.

But I am also bringing him back in play next year.

Giannis won't be in my Top Two.

KD and LBJ, one or the other.

Giannis could get into the Top Five though with an impressive playoffs.

I totally agree with this. It's funny how so many people think that the '80s and '90s NBA was head and shoulders above today's NBA. Today's NBA is at least as good. I will include recent seasons in today's NBA. Not only do you have so many elite players, you also have some of the greatest teams playing at the same time, like the Warriors, Rockets, LeBron's Cavs, recent Spurs teams. I guess that makes sense because of the talent level that is around nowadays.

Fair enough.

I guess for me, I just think the gap between the elite players in the league today is probably as narrow as it has ever been.

Throughout history, there are normally 1 or 2 guys that are clearly a cut above the rest.

LeBron and KD were that. But they both have played somewhat unevenly at times this year and because the gap is so narrow, I think the list is more likely to change (perhaps drastically) from year to year than ever before.
