It's not like Foster was ineffective, but Koepech was definitely the most "effective" reliever.

Guess it's as an accurate of a reason as any, but it was always my understanding that whoever completed the the 5th inning with the lead which would never be surrendered gets the win no matter what - even if the reliever only tossed 1/3 of an inning, but it was the last out of the 5th. There must have been some kind of change made in the rules that factors "effectivity" into the equation.

Honestly I always thought the same as well, but I thought I'd heard something about that rule being put into place to remove the cheap wins by relievers getting 1 or 2 outs.

Based on just what you said, that makes sense. However, I'll kinda argue that whoever decided that Foster's full inning wasn't sufficient was not correct. He would have easily gotten out of the inning undamaged had it not been for the errors made. He pitched a hitless, walkless inning and struck out the sides in doing so, which included whiffing Ohtani and Trout. To me, that's quality.

One nice advantage of living in the Pacific Time Zone - a 6pm game on the west coast is a 6pm game here in Sin City. Of course it's moot being that I DVR all games of all sports that I watch anyway, so I wait until I guesstimate that they're about half over before I begin watching. Allows me the sheer pleasure of blasting thru all those stinking commercials.

One thing I like so far from Tony La Russa is his desire to get all his players opportunities to play. In my mind that leads to nights like the one Mercedes had. It also takes the pressure off guys.
