See, I don't use Yards and Attempts to measure QB's. Again, I'm not just saying that for this particular discussion. I mean I don't EVER use that as a measuring stick. I'm more concerned with who is more Efficient with the attempts that they run: Yards Per Attempt.

Using yards and completions would cause one to conclude that Chad Henne is also better than Kaepernick.

Sacks, interceptions, and fumbles are all good indicators and they are covered in Passer Rating and Total QBR.

Those were the bogus numbers through mid November. No way either QB had 9 TD's for the season

So Alex Smith wins this vote easily, even though I fucked up and accidentally voted for Kaepernick AND 90% of this board is Niners fans? Just wow. :L

I should have checked the numbers. But I was more concerned with addressing the categories you were using to compare them.

not bad for Alex since he took over the worst team in the league (was a #1 pick wasnt he) & Colin took over a championship caliber team.

I really don't understand all the Alex Smith support. I like it, but I don't understand it...at all.

Of the most significant QB categories in my opinion (and I swear I'm not just trying to use the stats that agree with my opinion), Kaepernick is better.

Yards Per Attempt:
Kaepernick 7.69
Smith 6.52

Passer Rating:
Kaepernick 91.6
Smith 89.1

Total QBR:
Kaepernick 68.6
Smith 49.4

Then consider the fact that Kaepernick did this without his best receiver for much of the season. But more importantly, just WATCH them play and it should be incredibly obvious which QB is better.

Do the Smith voters here even watch football? Please enlighten me as to why Alex Smith is better. I don't get it at all.

2012 Smith vs. 2013 Kaepernick (More similar teams, not same*)

Yards Per Attempt:
Kaepernick 7.7
Smith: 8.0

Passer Rating:
Kaepernick 91.6
Smith 104.1

Total QBR:
Kaepernick 68.6
Smith 69.4

Completion Percentage
Kaepernick 58.4
Smith 70.2

*You could say that Kaepernick didn't have Crabtree but he had Boldin, who can be better than Bowe. You could use Kaepernick's 2012 year which is better.

I just don't see the point of using stats from different teams when they played on the same team before and when you could come to the conclusion with your eye test and skillset of the two to say Kaepernick > Smith.

Of course, Kaepernick attempts deeper passes and that lowers YPA/%, but there was no context of a new system in KC given to explain the level of YPA (will rise in 2014 as it did in second half of 2013). Instead, it was offered to paint Smith as that low. Kaepernick was in his third year in SF. Smith would have been better in SF than KC. But comparing a 9 year QB with one starting his third is off, too, so I don't like this thread.

It's pretty common knowledge that the Chiefs had plenty of talent in 2012. They had 6 players go to the Pro Bowl. Compare that to the Jaguars, who didn't have a single Pro Bowler.

The Chiefs problems in 2012 were terrible qb play and awful coaching. Plus they brought in 30 new players in 2013.

Kaep doesn't have any touch on his throws. They're either frozen ropes or nothing at all. I think Elway had that same problem but ended it up working on it.
