I think most fans could agree that it's very frustrating to see a bright prospect not get playing time. It was very frustrating as a Pens fan to see guys like Beau Bennett & Simon Despres being healthy scratches or being sent down to the minors. This year I am very hopeful that they will become regulars on the roster. I also hope that guys like Brian Dumoulin, Phillipe Samuelsson, Paul Thompson, Olli Maatta, & Derrick Pouliot could make some cameo appearances over the course of a full 82 game schedule, very intrigued to see what those guys can do against NHL level competition.

How about you guys? Which prospects on your respective teams do you expect to see this year? Which prospects do you have the greatest hope for this season, & which prospects would you like to see even if in limited action.

Like I said earlier in this post, the prospects I expect to see are Simon Despres & Beau Bennett, really excited to see both of them, and I hope to see Brian Dumoulin, Phillipe Samuelsson, Paul Thompson, & possibly Derrick Pouliot & Olli Maatta in limited call ups.

The two that will see regular time are Ryan Murray and Boone Jenner.

Beyond them, I'd like to see a bit more time for Jonathan Audy-Marchessault and Kerby Rychel. JAM had some moments last year and seems well suited to a second line punch role in the near future. And Kerby impressed the ever loving crap out of me at rookie camp. He was everywhere. Super hands, lots of energy and a really good attitude. If he has a great camp, he might get a shot before they send him to avoid burning the year on him.

The thing with the Jackets is within two years, they will probably have an entire first or second line gone, and they JAM and Kerby to play with Wennberg in the AHL to and build chemistry so they can fill that need when it comes up.

Two dark horses to fill roles are Ilari Melart (big, angry D man who FLATTENED Marko Dano in rookie camp) and Seth Ambroz. The Jackets team vision is to not be a night off for any opponent. And if the east seems to goon it up and play more physical, both of these guys could see time.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to seeing Ryan Murray play as well. Really impressed with the young talent the Blue Jackets got at the blue line. I think that might be their greatest strength next to Bobrovsky.

I made a thread about dark horses in every division, I picked the Blue Jackets to be the dark horses of the Metropolitan Division. Made the case that the Blue Jackets have a lot of similarities to the Rangers, who are expected by many experts to be my Pens' biggest threat in the division.

Jordan Schroeder needs to be a regular this season.
Niclas Jensen can be the next Jannick Hansen as well
Chris Tanev can lean into top 4 territory on the blue line
Frankie Corrado can also contribute on the blueline (still pissed they burned an ELC year for him)
Eddie Lack has very little room for error, especially if Lou gets hurt at all
Zack Kassian needs to be a top 6 player

The corner stones of the future (Gaunce, Skinkaruk, Horvat) should all go back to junior, as I've mentioned in another thread.
Looking at that list of youth makes me hopeful that the eventual rebuild will be a soft landing. That's a much. Better pipeline than we've had for a long, long time. No stars, but that has the makings of a pretty solid core.

Rychel cannot play in the AHL this year until his OHL team is eliminated. CHL players under 20 have to either make the big squad or go back to junior. This applies to them until the year in which they will at least turn 20 during that season (I believe).

Is Wennberg making the jump across the pond to play in the A? That would be huge.

For the Sens I want, and expect, Zibanejad and Pageau to play a lot of games for the Ottawa Senators.

I'm particularly excited about Pageau. He has smarts, drive and speed. If he was 6 feet tall he would have gone in the top 10 of his draft year. The thing about him is that he plays big. He wins draws, goes to the dirty areas and seems really good at winning puck battles with bigger players.

Canucks did a good job of building their farm team the past couple years. Only guys I knew of were Schroeder, Sterling, & Hayes. Now they got Gaunce, Shinkaruk, & Horvat (all of which could see some ice time this year). Sort of concerned about Tortorella tho, doesn't have a good record with young guys, but hopefully he'll be forced to play the young guys and set things up for the future. I wouldn't call this a rebuilding year for the Canucks (they're still a good team) but it's obviously a transitional year.

I'd say that the most pressing need is to get Darcy Kuemper as many games as possible to continue acclimating him to NHL-level net minding.

I like a lot of the Wild's prospects. Kuemper is probably their goalie of the future, Grandlund will be their star of the future, Zucker & Coyle should also be major players fairly soon. I would like to see them use Steve Kampfer & Matt Dumba. With the success they had with Brodin last season, they shouldn't hesitate one bit when going to the farm.

Yeah, Sens always seem to have some great prospects. Zibanejad was very impressive last season, and although I never thought much of Pagneau, he really showed me something when he scored that hat trick against the Habs in the playoffs (I believe he even scored a goal while losing a tooth). Sens farm system always impresses me.

Hampus Lindholm and John Gibson.

Good list, I am also intrigued by Gibson. In spite of the Ducks having Hiller & Fasth, Gibson just might be their best goalie already. Can't wait to see what he does in the NHL.

There is talk of it. Jackets are trying to negotiate it from what I hear. He is apparently in favor, he liked it over here.

Thanks for the clarification on Kerby, I had forgotten that. He'll get a few games and then back to Windsor, I'd guess.

I think Sean Monahan will get nine NHL regular season games and then a decision will be made whether or not to send him back to junior. Same will likely go for Emile Poirier and Morgan Klimchuk, although of the three, Monahan has the best chances of sticking with the Flames.

JT Miller and Kreider I would like to see them get regular playing time during the regular season. Torts had a way of not playing the young guys. Also after being taken 10th overall in 2010 Mcllrath needs to play its been 3 years he should have shown enough in the minors by now.

I agree, Monahan has the most upsides of the players you mentioned. From what I've read his hockey IQ is off the charts.

Yeah, Kreider & Miller should benefit greatly from the coaching change. McIlrath should get an opportunity this year. With the departure of Ryane Clowe, Rangers need someone to bring the toughness. They got Callahan, Boyle, & Powe but they need someone to make up for the void left by Clowe.

Jon Merrill. Has the potential to be a top pairing D man, goes a long way toward our future if he and Larsson can become our top pairing guys to go along with Schneider in net for the forseeable future.

I believe the top prospects in the Devils' system are Jon Merrill, Stefan Matteau, and Reid Boucher, correct?

The bulk of our top 10 are on D, Merrill, Alexander Urbom, Damon Severson, Eric Gelinas and a guy we drafted this year Steven Santini are all projected to be legitimate NHLers.

In terms of forwards it's basically Boucher and a guy we drafted this year, Ryan Kujawinski, who when he is on is lights out but has a tendency to mail it in which is why he was taken in the 3rd instead of late first/second. I fully expect Stefan Matteau to be on the roster this year as he played enough games last year to burn a year of his ELC.
