Today's game is like two hand touch compared to the 70's/80's.......

Lol...pretty much.

I remember a game in 3 Rivers when Bradshaw was piledriven on his head...took a few plays off and they were giving him smelling salts and he came back in and played...I want to say he finished the game. Different era.

In all honesty, I think the QB's that I'd like to see playing today are the guys who are somewhat forgotten, or got some raw deal or whatever. I still believe that Ken Anderson might be the most underrated guy ever and should be a HOF given some of the standards involved. A guy like Neil Lomax would be every bit as good as someone like Matt Ryan, perhaps even better, in today's game but that's a name you almost never hear about....ever.

I don't remember too many 250 lb linebackers that can run a 4.6-4.7 back then. The game is so much bigger and faster now. Running backs could play 8-9 years and remain a viable weapon. Nowadays, the toll of high speed impacts have shortened that to 4-5 years except the very elite.

RB's are not protected like QB's. Tom Brady just won an MVP at age of 40 or whatever. Drew Brees nearly had an MVP season at age 39. The only reason why Peyton Manning didn't keep pushing through was his neck injury that really was more fluke than constant pounding. It doesn't matter much if huge, fast LB's are so much more athletic and whatnot, when they can't take out their abilities on QB's because of rules.

At those ages, guys like Montana, Marino, Fouts, Elway, etc.....were already retired. Their peak years were many years prior to their final seasons.

Whether the LB is running 4.6 or 5.2 doesn't matter that much, they are not allowed to hit the QB the same way now.

But they still do and take a lot of penalties for it. The QB still gets hit.

We can disagree. I'd still rather have Unitas than Montana.

Probably made him smarter......

Funny, I was thinking about Ken Anderson and this thread at work last night. I agree that he was and is very underrated. It would be interesting to see guys like that. I bet more than a few of those early- mid 80's guys would put up numbers like Ryan, Brees, Ben etc. in todays game

Agreeing to disagree is never a bad thing.

I never said which I'd rather have, but imo you can't go wrong with either one....win win.

Marino is the obvious choice. Fran Tarkenton and Otto Graham are two that haven't been mentioned yet that crossed my mind.
Marino is definitely the top choice, but Otto Graham was actually the 2nd one that I would put. All-time YPA leader at 9.0 (!!) in today's NFL would be really fun to watch.

Nobody wants to see a guy that can't complete passes. I would much rather have Young, Marino, Montana as well as many others than horse mouth.
