Assuming Josh Morgan is our 2nd and Crabtree is our slot next year. Or the other way around assuming you didn't watch this season.

1a) Colston 1b) Bowe

If either one leaves their respective teams, I think the 49ers will have a serious chance at signing them. They will get the pitch that the 49ers are a great WR away from going to the Super Bowl. Exhibit A is the NFC Championship. They will want to play for the 49ers and Harbaugh. Great city, great tradition, great team.

I would think Bowe would be the most likely to bail. The Chiefs aren't close to winning a SB. Who would want to live in KC over SF? The only thing that could possible sway Colston would be how much the Saints spread the ball around. Maybe he wants more opportunities for himself?

Of those 4 big names, I'd take any one of them honestly. Pair one of these guys along with somebody like Jerome Simpson to go along with Crabs, Morgan, and Williams and I think we would have a nice group of WR's.

All of these guys have big-time talent, and they all have some red flags. I go Colston because, when healthy, I think he offers the most for our team. He's a huge target, makes the tough catches, and is a good teammate so far as I know. The only red flag - granted it's a big one - is his injury history. Bowe is very talented, but he's got shaky hands and is a bit of a head case. I'd rank V. Jackson second. He's probably the most physically talented of this bunch, but I also question the head on his shoulders. As long as Smith is our QB, I don't think adding D. Jackson does much of anything. Smith won't hit the deep ball consistently anyway. Factor in DeSean's inconsistency, and it's a recipe for a lot of missed opportunities.

I'm really surprised that everyone is putting Colston above DeSean. Am I the only one that's worried that he's just a product of Drew Brees? I'd much rather somebody like Bowe or either Jacksons because they create their own plays.

Easily Vincent Jackson. He's in his prime, and the dude actually got married and stayed out of trouble last year in SD so hopefully he's matured.

Huge red zone target, can go up and get balls, and also can go deep.

Dwayne Bowe already has as many 1,000 yard seasons and 1 less touchdown than Jackson and is two years younger. He's not the deep threat Jackson is, but he's consistently good. Plus he didn't have Phillip Rivers throwing to him.

Desean Jackson. He is the explosive deep threat we need to go along with VD. It would free up Crabtree and Williams to get a lot of underneath routes. Plus, he returns punts! Vincent Jackson is second and Colston is a very distant last.

i like this order.

in the draft we might keep an eye out for a "slot" type WR, say round 3 and later? someone who's quick and more likely to get open short/medium. someone who can get open quick if the QB is flushed out.

I picked V. Jackson, because he is the big WR we need with the deep ball capability.

2. Bowe
3. D. Jackson
4. Colston

Vincent Jackson is such a deep threat that he'll tend to draw safety help more than VD does, which will free up Davis for what he does, and then with Vincent Jackson and VD drawing the most attention. Our slowass 1st round bust Lobsterbush can pick up the easy dumps for 8-12 yards against weaker DBs

I went with Colston, I think Bowe will get franchised.

I want the 49ers to address WR in both FA and high in the draft, and look to trade Crabtree for a 2nd or 3rd round pick if Possible.

If we sign Colston or Bowe then we should look for a speedy WR like Kendall Wright or if we go with Jackson draft a big target like Dwight Jones or Alshon Jeffery.

If VJ wants $8M/year I'd sign him and then cut Crabtree and save $4M/year.

I like Desean as well but he's kind of a deep ball specialist, and he's not a red zone threat like VJ because of his size, and also he's injury prone a few times he's been lit up by a big hit and he's missed games.

So I'd go the route of a big receiver, and I'd be willing to cut Crabtree if we need to save cap space.

Fixed it, Lobsters are too valuable.

Fellows, we run a west coast offense. We need a WR that excels in YAC and that could also go deep. Both DeSean and Bowe fits that mold. Other than this year, DeSean was known to take a short pass and outrun everyone on defense. This year for some reason, they got enamored in trying to hit him with deep balls only. They didn't take advantage of his talent in being able to make people miss (quickness / agility) and then outrun people. Harbaugh would implement plays for Desean that would make us view him in a different light.

As for Bowe, he too has the ability to take a short pass for a long gain. He has deceptive speed and is deadly in press coverage (you try to jam him and you will pay for it). Colston IMO is the worse of this group. He would not be able to play a 16 game season. He and Vincent are elite level when it comes to ball skills and outjumping dbs. Coltson is not bad in that area but he's far from being considered an elite player in that area. Coltson is a very good wr but I notice that he is somewhat overrated as well.

I would go:
D. Bowe
D. Jackson
V. Jackson
M. Colston
