I dont know but i always found it annoying. also if the "easy" teams are cupcakes does that make the top 10 teams wedding cakes (big and elaborate and most expensive) and therefore everyone in between birthday cake?

The term "cupcake" originated in the days of Coach Bear Byant. Growing tired of kicking ass down south Coach Bryant yearned for competition out West where a 3-0 ballgame between powerhouses occured regularly. With gas prices soaring (20cents a gallon) in the South and little in his way of competition in the South, Coach B "sold his soul" to Betty Crocker and General Mills for some gas money for his team's lil' yellow school bus so he could take his squad out west for some real ballgames even if it cost him "Home court" advantage and took a week to get to the games and get back home.

Hence the term cupcake.

You could not possibly be more wrong!!

The term cupcake was first coined by Pete Carroll in 2006!! After USC had gone 4-0 vs. SEC teams from 2002 - 2006 and winning by a combined score of 167-48, he said: "We have got to quit scheduling these cupcakes and find some real competition to prepare us for the PAC-10 schedule"!! :becky:

Cue SEC fan meltdown in:
