Heard something interesting tonight. Kesler has indeed asked for atrade but has done so reluctantly

It's good analysis and I don't disagree with his assessment that Green might still be a little better than Alzner and definitely better than Carlson on D. Here's what it misses...

-I wouldn't say Alzner/Carlson are a "shut down" top pair. Alzner would make a great partner to a shut down D-player or he and Carly would be an excellent 2nd pair.

-Carlson and Alzner have played in literally EVERY Caps' game the last 4 seasons. Green has missed more than 1/3 of them with injuries and hasn't been 100% at times. His list of injuries is long. I think he'll be out of the league in another 3-5 years.

-Green makes more than Alzner/Carlson combined.

-Green has really dropped off the last two seasons - I thought his D shortcomings were overstated and that he improved about 3-4 years ago, but it's gone away again.

-Caps showed this year Green is not necessary to work the PP with Carlson doing a fine job. Green's "O" production is less than 100 points the last four years, compared to more than 200 points in the 3 seasons prior.

I don't see how this involves his wife and a weather girl.



Jackets will move or buy out Umberger and Boll. Could move Atkinson or Calvert because they have four forwards who could make the team this season. They are not in the Joe Thornton or Jason Spezza mixes. I expect they will go after a top six forward in UFA and use Umby and Boll to get a backup goalie.

Jarmo is waiting patiently for buyouts before pouncing. I bet he is laser focused on Moulson or Michalek. If the cost for Hossa is palatable, he could go after him.
