NCAA should not be involved in this matter. It is not a matter of athletics. This horrific situation did not give Penn State a competitive edge in any way. Grade tampering and giving players things that are against NCAA regulations or other things that help players stay on the field at the organization give them competitive edge, and that is the responsibility of the NCAA.

Here's what I think should be the penalty. The victims should sue Penn State University for neglect, or whatever legal term fits it best. Not Penn State football, but the entire university. And then let the jury or judge or whoever make the punishment. I'm not talking about 1 trial, but each victim separately. It is a legal matter, not an NCAA matter.

As for what Penn State should do here on out, try to move on. Have a spokesperson for the situation. They shouldn't hide from it, but they shouldn't turn it into what they are about (even if it is right now). They should send ads out that show positives of the university. And deal with each situation involving this as it comes. Take away Joe Paterno's name from the library. Remove his statue. And remove him from anything like that. It is and will give PSU bad publicity.

Yeah, because the fact that this was covered up for the past decade and coaches and administrators who would have AT THE VERY LEAST been fired did not allow them to continue to recruit as usual, and keep coaches on staff that should not have been.

IF the NCAA wants to get involved, they have the verbiage in the LOIC clause to do so. Will they is the question.

I think that the NCAA will approach Penn State, and tell them to self impose, or they will be forced to review the case. It appears the head coach and university officials all perjured themselves, at the very least. Id the NCAA wants to crush PSU, they have the ammo to do it now. I don't think they want to, hence them working with PSU to move through the process.

That is a good point. If they leave that up, that is something that they can explain. I just figured PSU honored him and his efforts in emphasizing the importance of education by putting his name on the library. I didn't realize Paternos gave money to the university for it.

Coaches (plural) committed felonies.....one committed the act, the others covered up for it for 14 years.

How many top recruits do you think they would NOT have gotten had they not been trying to cover up such heinous crimes? You HAVE to punish the program that committed the crime, there is no other option.

If I go out and rob a bank, do my kids have anything to do with it? NO. But I still have to go to jail, right? They're innocent, but they suffer not having their dad for 20 years. That's how justice and life work, people.

What's the difference here? NONE. The PROGRAM is dirty. The PROGRAM has to be punished.

Trying to keep the program out of trouble is how we got here to begin with!

You go out and rob a bank, you get locked up for a long long time...then you're children, who were not involved and didnt know aobut it get locked up for a couple years as well for having a shitty law breaking father.

Im sorry but this is completely 100% a matter of athletics. A member of the COACHING staff raped young children on campus, this was known by other members of the staff and the ATHLETIC director. Saying this doesnt involve athletics is assinine. It involves the entire athletic program. Just because the athletes weren't involved doesnt mean it doesnt involve the department. What would you all be saying if it was the players raping kids and the coaches knew but didnt tell?? Theres no difference. It involves the athletic department. That by very definition means the NCAA has to get involved.
