it's obvious to me after a 14 year cover up of allowing a monster to run around and r*pe and ****** children they deserve the death sentence, Joe Paterno name should be removed from everything.

I've always been against the Death Penalty in football. However this is a completely different matter.

I saw a suggestion that the death penalty for Penn State should be they pay the victims and child abuse charities the total amount of revenue gained by PSU sports since Sandusky was hired as a a coach up until the release of the Freeh report. Then 13 more years. Think about those numbers.

Sandusky should suffer more than a quick clean death. I'm thinking general population in the state pen. Even hardened criminals hate pedos. He'd suffer plenty.

Punishing the athletes now will not help the matter. I think the only penalties that should be handed down is scholarship reductions because they do not affect the current players. The main thing is to remove anything related to Paterno, Sandusky, or the President, AD, VP, etc. that covered this matter up.

Though I would volunteer for Sandusky's firing squad (and would aim the first round at his balls), those of you who think this is the end of the school and/or its football program are dreaming. I won't elaborate, since I already did so in another thread.

Oh...that reminds me...

Im with Volbound. Punishing the student athletes is not going to help. I think they should be forced to give all of the profits from each home game to the victims for 2 years and to shelters for the following 8 years.

If the NCAA went by this train of thought they would hardly ever impose sanctions.

Yeah, but that's when actual players have committed the violations. In my opinion, this whole thing is way beyond football. Football shouldn't even be mentioned in this matter. Punish those involved with the cover up, and leave the players and fans alone, they've been through enough.

I'm sorry, nothing personal.....but this is about the DUMBEST thing I've read here in a loooooooong time.

Dude, the NCAA punishes teams for selling personal memorabilia......kids were RAPED repeatedly by a football coach using school facilities, and covered up by the program and university.

I'm sorry, but they should be banned for no less than 3 years. There will always be collateral damage......but protecting the football program is EXACTLY what got them in this mess to begin with. If the kids want to transfer, let them. But don't give us this crap about the current players. We are not punishing them. We are punishing a corrupt PROGRAM and university.

The penalties for this should be SEVERE. You have to send a message.

Yeah, the message that sends is that if your coach is a felon on a matter not related in any way to the athletic competition you're (the players) still liable. Some message. This matter was really way outside the realm of any NCAA rules and the NCAA may have a hard time doing anything. If a coach committed murder would you still want to punish the school?

YES.

You just don't get it do you?

Coaches (plural) committed felonies.....one committed the act, the others covered up for it for 14 years.

How many top recruits do you think they would NOT have gotten had they not been trying to cover up such heinous crimes? You HAVE to punish the program that committed the crime, there is no other option.

If I go out and rob a bank, do my kids have anything to do with it? NO. But I still have to go to jail, right? They're innocent, but they suffer not having their dad for 20 years. That's how justice and life work, people.

What's the difference here? NONE. The PROGRAM is dirty. The PROGRAM has to be punished.

Trying to keep the program out of trouble is how we got here to begin with!

I thought long and hard about this.

I'm thinking bowl ban for five years
massive reduction of schollies for five years
allowing current students to transfer with no penalties
restitution to families
all parties that seem to be involved in the cover up fired (including the janitors)

I tihnk football has to be gone. Period. For at LEAST a year.

That punishes everyone - including the university itself from lack of revenue.

Players should be allowed to leave without penalty and be given an extra year of eligibility.

Let's face it, the university is going to have enough trouble paying these civil cases when they start to hit. I think the university should also consider removing all Paterno named facilities and statues.

But the death penalty for at least a year is certainly appropriate for the biggest scandal we've ever seen at the collegiate level.

Banning 18-22 year old kids from playing football for something they had no part of is the gayest thing I've ever heard...the NCAA would be even more worthless if they did that than what they already are. You fuckers forget that it was grown ass men fucking up this time...the current players had absolutely nothing to do with this mess. Penn state should be fined a shit ton of money, enough money that their football program would suffer and then the current players have a free pass to play where ever they want the next year.

Why didn't Kansas basketball get punished for the crimes at KU? Because it was a criminal matter not an NCAA matter. Sure it wasn't as heinous as what happened at Penn State but $2 million+ in wire fraud and theft is no laughing matter, ask Bernie Madoff.

Let the kids transfer.

Penn State should not be allowed to play football this year. Some of you need to learn the difference in punishing a PROGRAM, and punishing kids. The kids on that team are screwed no matter WHAT happens. They can play elsewhere, and move on. The university should not have that luxury of still profitting off of football. I weep for the judgement of some of you.

I'm kinda torn on this as I can understand why one would have an opinion either way. For the most part, I think that it should be handled more as a criminal situation than NCAA. Anyone involved or in the know, in the Athletic Department, BOT, Penn St brass -- needs to go. That place should be cleaning house -- big time. I don't think that a death penalty is in order but a 5-yr bowl ban/probationary period and allowing players to transfer without penalty, seems fitting.
