I agree, I think they did well. After reading all the scouting reports, I do have my doubts about the Nicholson pick. Scouts were quoted as saying he is big and beautiful but that's it. Another scout said at the end of the game he will have the cleanest jersey on the field. That doesn't bode well for a guy that will be expected to compete in the NFC East.

Love the Allen pick.
Like the Anderson pick
Meh on the Moreau, Perine, Sprinkle picks
Don't like the Nicholson pick
Intrigued by the Harvey-Clemons pick

Davis is a big guy that can run, but I wanted a little, shifty guy that can run. (Cannon, Coley, Gibson)

Would have taken Joe Williams or Mack over Perine, but I think Perine is our Gerald Riggs. 3rd and goal from the two is no longer a fade route play. Give it to Perine and send out the extra point unit. I get it.

The Skins appeared to be hell bent on doing two things this off-season.

1. Fixing the redzone issues. (Pryor, Quick, Sprinkle, Perine)

2. Getting off the field on 3rd down. (All the corners, safties, and edge rushers)

At the time, there were things I would have done differently.

The moment Allen slipped, he became my first round pick.

In the second I probably would have traded up for cook, but then again I didnt expect Perine to be there in the 4th and I wanted a RB that was a day one starer and 3 down back. Mixon wasnt in the ball park because of the off field stuff.

I admit I would have taken Brantley in the 4th... but again considering that Perine was there... cant be mad.

All in all, we cant go captain hindsight on this one, because we actually did kinda nail the draft. We went substance over sexy.. which was a pleasant surprise.

That was why I made this post. A proof of thought instead of changing stories 3 years latr.

He did but there was nothing of significance.
I'm going to wait until after this season to tell you what I would have done differently in this draft. And then I will continue to remind you how I was right and we should have drafted player X (to be named after I see who does well) instead. I will continue to remind you that I was right (and you were wrong) every time some blogger or poster on this board (or any other board) agrees with me as proof that it was a fact that I was right. After all, all that matters is that I was right, not how the team actually does or how any other player that I did not select performs.

I thought we had a solid draft. Almost everyone was down on the Nicholas pick.

I have to remind people b/c a lot of people on here lose focus.

Go listen to Anderson's interview with Doc. Paraphrase "I don't need no good combine numbers to go out there on Sundays and kick somebody's ass." Love it!

Only problem is...those combine numbers kinda matter

Alright if I made each selection...

1.17 - Jonathan Allen, DE, Alabama

This one was a no brainer IMO. Maybe it doesnt work out, but I dont think you can pass on him there.

2.17 - DeShone Kizer, QB, Notre Dame*

Ok heres my hot take. I don't really know the whole deal with Cousins right now. But Im only meh on Anderson. I think he'll be a quality player for a long time but his upside is just not that high I think. When I went to check who was available at this pick though, I realized that there wasnt really anybody I loved who wouldnt be a reach - except for one guy. And he happens to play QB. Sue me. Kizer is my favorite QB in this class, and I think a steal in the 2nd. If there was somebody else I loved here Id go with them. But one theres only one guy you love and he happens to play the most important position in football...you take him. That said...after checking who we couldve gotten - I like the Anderson pick a lot more than I initially did.

3.17 - Fabian Moreau, CB, UCLA

I really like this pick. I think its a high upside pick in the 3rd round. Sure hes hurt, but he comes at a discount as a result and I think is more than worth it. Other options wouldve been Cordrea Tankersly, Chris Godwin, and Derek Rivers.

4.07 - Carlos Watkins, DL, Clemson

I'll start by saying I really like Perine and have no problem with that pick. But Watkins is probably a similar level prospect on the DL. Shoring up the DL would be one of my top priorities, and I think theres still a handful of RBs I like. I don't feel I need to take one here. With Watkins and Allen this DL could start to look half decent.

4.17 - Jamaal Williams, RB, BYU

Perine is gone so RB starts getting a little thinner. Ill take one of my favorite prospects in the draft here. Williams has the size, power and moves to be a workhorse back. He hasnt been asked to catch the ball much but I think hes capable. In our offense he can at least split time with Kelley and at most take the reins and be a quality starting RB for us for the length of his rookie contract. Desmond King gets strong consideration here too and honestly I'm not sure who I'd go with between the two.

5.10 - Caleb Brantley, DL, Florida

Its hard to beat this level of prospect in the 5th round. Im not even a huge Brantley fan but in the 5th I say why not take a shot. If he is in trouble you let him go, no big deal. But he has upside easily worth that risk.

6.15 - Bucky Hodges, TE, Virginia Tech

TE isnt a need for us right now but it could quickly become one. This is a deep TE class so a guy like Hodges in the 6th round is a steal. Hard to pass up 6'6", 260, 4.57 speed, and a 39" vertical in the 6th round.

6.25 - Josh Carraway, OLB, TCU

Adding pass rushers is always something Ill support. In the 6th round Carraway has potential to be a situational pass rusher and help us get off the field on 3rd down. Or he could play special teams.

7.12 - KD Cannon, WR, Baylor

Runs a 4.41 with a 37 inch vertical. Exciting big play guy. Surprised he went undrafted.

7.17 - Ishmael Zamora, WR, Baylor

Now Zamora I am NOT surprised went undrafted. But boy is he talented. Hes 6'4", 225, with 4.58 speed, and a 40" vertical. Thats not common in a WR and on top of that hes physical, with soft hands, and surprisingly smooth routes for a guy his size (and for a guy who went to Baylor). His upside is as high as anybody's in this draft class at WR (can you tell I like upside?). Sure he's an asshole and maybe you cant get away with taking Brantley AND Zamora in the same draft but I also dont think you can pass on this much potential in the 7th round.

* - One final thought on the Kizer pick. I wouldve loved to trade up from that spot for Malik McDowell. THAT couldve given us an exciting DL with (you guessed it) crazy upside.

Speed, agility, strength, change of direction, explosiveness, acceleration...these things dont matter??
Sure they do. But there have been countless Combine warriors that stunk as football players. So they only tell part of the story, but there are other intangibles such as heart, dedication, desire, smarts, that are just as important. The best ones excel in most of these criteria, but there also are numerous stories of guys that didn't do well at the combine (or weren't even invited) that became great players. So at the end of the day, the performance at the combine only really helps with your draft position, it doesn't automatically translate to stardom on the field.

Of course they only tell a part of the story. Combine warriors often get hype because their flaws are overlooked. But thats just as foolish as overlooking a horrible combine. And I know it doesnt automatically translate to the field. But I think too many people dismiss the combine as a meaningless workout in shorts instead of what it is - the best measure of how these players stack up to their competition athletically. And at the end of the game their playing in a game that requires athleticism. You dont have to be Julio Jones athletic to succeed. But you cant be unathletic either.

Anderson could well be a good player. I think he will be solid. I just think his upside is limited and his athleticism raises concerns. Dismissing it is foolish IMO.

Again, not the end of the world, but you cant just ignore that either.

Your point is legitimate and of course if everything is equal, you always take the bigger, faster, more athletic guy. It is an interesting point that the stat you posted offers. It would raise my eyebrows also. I wasn't aware of this about Anderson.
