It's obvious that some people just want to get rid of Geno for the sake of getting rid of Geno.
With little to zero regard for the consequences of the action.

I sometimes feel like I was watching different games than they were.

Or speak a different language.

It would be great to have a QB upgrade for 2024. Cutting Geno time now does not accomplish that. And we are not going to go out and sign some high-priced FA QB, so having Geno on the team also doesn't prevent a QB upgrade. It also doesn't prevent the team from drafting a QB. Why is this so hard to understand? On top of all that, there's really no sense continuing to debate it when we don't even have a head coach, so I think this is my stop on this one.

Tell what consequences are you speaking about?

Here are the FA QBs and more could follow:

Your "draft a QB. ANY QA" philosophy rarely works.
Your characterizing my stand dishonestly, at no time do I recommend "any QB" I just feel the Seahawks need to aim higher than a middle of the pack, aging, declining QB like Geno, especially at the amount of money he's going to make.

Which of these QBs do you think would be equal to or better than Geno?
Several and most would be substantially cheaper as a back up. Teams normally go cheap on back up QBs and hope they don't have to use him.

Nothing dishonest about it. I ask over and over and over which QBs you want them to target. You always demure while also saying that you want them to go for a QB.

You did the same thing with the draft last year.

Do you think we should move up and try get one of the big 3? Penix? Nix? McCarthy? Pratt?

OK. So give a hypothetical. Which player would you sign and which player would you draft that we have a realistic chance of drafting?

No not going give you a hypothetical. I showed you there are options on the FA market, so it is not necessary to pay Geno $31 million just in case.

Right. I'm sure Blaine Gabbert would be just fine.

I think continuing this debate is a waste of time for all involved, so I am going to push back into the crowd on this one and just watch how this plays out with Geno. New HC & 2/15. We'll see how those go.

We have about 42% of the projected 2024 salary cap spoken for by the current contracts of DK, Lockett, Jamal Adams, and Diggs. That's insane. The good news is you can do something about 3 of those. It really isn't anything to do with the new head coach, and we've discussed the potential cap casualty candidates already, but this is part of what Salk at least indirectly referred to when talking about the merits of a DK trade. We went overboard somewhere along the way investing in players at these 2 positions, and included in that investment is the absurdity of sending 2 first rounders to NYJ for Adams.

Adams and diggs are gone, but trading DK would make almost no impact on our cap in 24.

Trading DK would just make our team worse. A 1st rounder, assuming we could get one for him, is not worth a 26 year old top 10 WR.

DKs contract is now fully guaranteed. Trading DK because Carroll and his regime fucked up with Diggs/Adams would be absolutely stupid. Cut Diggs, cut Adams, possibly cut Lockett, cut Dissly (seriously have to think Schneider was high as fuck when he gave that contract out), cut Mone, cut Belore. There... that's about $40M and you're just DONE with the garbage that was given out to begin with. Subtract $10M for the draft, and then you got $25M to grab some DECENT guys in free agency. Williams will probably have to walk unless you want to dump Reed or do a post 6/1 Adams cut, which I think is pointless.

In 2025 you still have a lot of these rookies from the Wilson trade under contract, likely a cheap QB (that would be when you draft one, and simply plug and play like PURURURURDDDY), and all the dead cap gone with DK still on the roster, and you can go all in with a HUGE cap position.

And my stance was no different before the Carroll firing and MacDonald hiring.
