well, I think I am coming out of my anger and hatred for what happened Sunday....maybe it's New Year's and all that...I don't know. Maybe just the dense fog of a good hangover.
So as I sit here, having watched the game twice today, and thinking about this team, it is at a huge crossroads. Debatably, this is the biggest offseason in a long time for this team. Think about it, we have to deal with a QB decision, the whole defense is a mess, we have a bunch of stars who were injured and are due to re-sign, we have our picks in a draft and in decent position, and for once the team isn't fundamentally old.
Decisions like the Cutler decision are obviously big, but there are other huge matzoballs hanging over this team. What are they going to do about Henry Melton? Tillman? Extend Marshall? Those are all big ticket items.
I really don't care about the draft...in that I don't care who or what position it is, so long as it is among one of the many, many obvious needs. Yeah if they draft a WR or RB round 1, I will go ballistic, but other than that, hell, I don't care. I'm going to trust the scouts. They see a guy they want, great. Just don't be trading up...this roster has too many holes.
I'd really like to see them either cut or re-structure Peppers. He is going to cost more money than he is worth. $18.25 million for a declining DE is too much. Yes, I am worried that they will overpay Cutler, but at least Cutler will "only" be overpaid by a few million if they do overpay. Peppers, by contrast, has the potential to wreck the team. I say this although I loved the guy, he was a great signing, all hail Lord Julius. But if we pay him $18+ next year for 6 sacks, we are screwed. His cost has to come down....a lot.
