Bruce Allen has suggested that he's considering placing another Tag on Kirk Cousins for the 2018 season. Suppose he actually does this, what happens next?

I think the media blew the story up redskins looking for something for Kirk is a good thing but most media outlets writes it as a negative and dysfunction. At the end of the day we will not get nothing for Kirk which I'm ok with like sharks philosophy even if we get a 3rd or 2nd for Kirk it does not matter we still have Bruce he will fuck it up so why even worry about getting something for Kirk ... time for church ... brb

If he tags Kirk, Kirk wont sign it. Bruce will thump his chest until March 10th, then rescind the tag.

Are you fucking kidding?? LOL

We will receive a play by play dissection of what Cousins does wrong on a weekly basis.

Just because he is no longer going to be on our roster does not mean we will have an end to the weekly

And HERE is How Kirk Sucked this week report

KC wont get tagged again if they are smart . let him go bring in CDC , and try to get some FA 's in here to fill holes . time to build the team up (AGAIN )

my hope is we dont go back to the pre SMGM days by chasing older name free agents and trading draft picks for older players

the smith trade wasnt a good omen

I doubt they will tag KC. But it would make for some great conversation.

I think if he did tag KC, he would sign it as it could benefit him and secondary it could hinder the home team.

OK, that's the answer to the question, what should Kirk do if he's tagged. Now how about my question?

@Stymietee If Kirk signs the tag, Bruce tries to pimp him to the Browns first. Kirk doesnt really want to go there. Kirk finds a team he is willing to go to long term and said team, knowing Bruce has painted himself into a corner again tells Bruce, we will take him off your hands. How does a nice new 2019 5th rounder that has the possibility of turning into a third rounder sound??

Again Bruce thumps his chest, but eventually he takes what he can get and spins it as a win for the Redskins.

Interesting, so they don't keep him a prolong the drama for another 365 days?

Sure they could. And in a bubble with this having no impact on other transactions, Bruce could maybe get away with it. But as we have discussed, keeping Kirk on roster another year at this point is untenable for a number of reasons. Also one would have to factor in how other free agents or potential free agents would view this kind of move.

Right now the idea of tagging him is gray area just business. Keeping Kirk as a $34.5M backup would squarely put this in the realm of that shit was personal dog. But hey, if they want to get back to the Redskins way of only getting free agents because we outbid everyone else, well this is a perfect way to put us back in the good old Redskins way Football.

people keep thinking some kind of trade that earns more then a 3rd round comp is going to happen

i say put that spin away . no one is trading for KC once we tag him and certainly not for a 2nd rounder or above

tagging him and removing the tag means NO compensation so that is out

tagging him and keeping him means we cant keep or sign any free agents

it puts the smith trade in limbo because i am sure CDC doesnt want to compete for a starting role when he should have had it already

i cant even begin to see the ramifications of backing out of the trade does to our future dealings with other teams and the people involved (fuller )

we have no leverage at all because we cant keep a 34 mil BU qb on the roster

so the question is really a moot point because it would be a foolish strategic move and if we did it i would roundly bash it to oblivion

we got CDC , roll with it and improve the team

If the redskins tag KC, he'll sign it immediately for the reasons already mentioned by everybody except the one trick pony.

If the redskins tag KC, when he signs it, they'll find at least one team that is willing to engage in both a LTD conversation with KC, AND compensation with the Redskins. There'd be virtually no good reason NOT to engage in conversations with either KC and/or the Redskins.

If the Redskins tag KC, it is possible that the Redskins will get slightly more of a return on that investment than a third round pick. I would think that the team that signs KC to a LTD would only have to include a future mid-round pick in addition to a 3rd rounder to get it done. Something like "a fourth rounder this year, AND a third rounder next year."

If the Redskins tag KC, it is also possible that no team negotiates with KC, instead waiting for the Redskins to rescind the tag.

why spend resources when you dont have too ? there is no real good reason to tag KC , let him go and move on with CDC

If KC gets tagged and he signs it, I think the Skins will trade him and the Smith deal goes through. The problem is that Washington MUST trade him to whatever team(s) he picks for whatever that team is willing to offer. I'm not sure a team ever had less leverage in a trade.

Since this is the exclusive tag, I'm not even sure if the team can allow Kirk to speak with other teams. I'd imagine they could though.
