Yep. In football, the better team is going to win the game more often than not. That's not the case in baseball, and that randomness can extend over even a seven game series.

Agreed. It's also why the 5 game series gives the underdog an even better chance. And of course the wild card game is almost perfectly random.

Nope. Look it up man, the 1 or 2 seed rarely wins. They almost always do in the NBA for example.

Because it's 1 game in the NFL or march madness, not best of 7. Whenever u play best of 7 - the best team will win. After 4-5 games in a row, you know your opponent very well. Anything can happen in 1 game especially with turnovers.

That's why you have a regular season and a post-season. ;)

Cardinals 2006 Rotation: Carpenter, Marquis, Suppan, Mulder, Reyes, Weaver

Cardinals 2007 Rotation: Waino, Braden FUCKING Looper, Kip FUCKING Wells, Anthony Reyes, Joel FUCKING Pineior & Todd FUCKING Wellemeyer

"Same team"

-the blind

I guess the only time the team that plays in St Louis is called the Cardinals is when CowboyB approves of its personnel and bill of health.

Like it or not, the 2006 Cardinals aren't the "same team" as the 2005 Cardinals, or the 2007 Cardinals, or any other year's Cardinals, but they're all Cardinals.

Alright, so if the Indians had to face the Blue Jays in a best of 7 series starting tomorrow, you'd clearly be fully comfortable betting your life's savings on the Indians? Correct?

Hey I'm a Giants fan. And even I know we weren't the best regular season team in any of the championship years, even when we won all those 5 and 7 game series. But sure you can call them the best. As I said, the ring matters way more than the vocabulary.

Were you one of the guys who lost their shit when I said pretty much that exact thing on the Giants board a couple of months ago?

By the way, word.

Kudos for acknowledging it. The Indians were not the "best" team in the AL this season, yet here we are, getting ready to face what I consider to be the best team in baseball in the World Series. Boston or Toronto can keep their "best" title (I'm not sure which I consider better), I just hope the Tribe can eek out four more wins.

Roll Tribe.

Nope, because no one lost their shit. You got butthurt when we didn't give you a hummer for your banal observation.

You said that we should adjust for injuries and how much wins a team would have had?? Actually I know you did and you corrected me on that because I overlooked it.

Chris Carpenter would have EASILY accounted for 15+ wins if he were 100% healthy in 2007 and 2008

Don't worry. I have EXTREMELY low expectations for stand up behavior in a real discussion on a message board. Most people are allergic to saying "I was wrong."

Those 3 words make this post a strawman.

Not banal, and folks lost their shit for sure. Can't remember if you were one or not and I've got no inclination to look it up. Not all team boards are like that.

Had I replied anymore than I had, I'd likely have been banned.

Exactly. You think the Cubs will give a shit about being the best team in baseball this year if they fall short in the Series?

Holy. Fucking. Shit.

On planet Earth, I implied that it would fucking retarded to do such a thing, which it would.

after they just played a best of 7 series against each other? Makes no sense. Blue Jays have the revenge factor, but Cleveland just rolled them and clearly has the momentum.

You think the NY Giants could beat that undefeated Patriots team best of 5? 3? I doubt it. Give 2 team 5-7 game series and you see who's better. Sometimes teams get on a roll and it's a hard train to stop, but that's part of the game.

In other news, if grandma had balls, she'd be grandpa.

You are literally to fucking stupid to talk to.

No you are being pedantic about vocabulary. There's no objectively 'right' answer here. The 'best' team is debatable, unless the best regular season team also wins the WS. And even then, if one team wins 100 games and another wins 98 in a tougher division, you can't even definitively say who's best then.
