What are your concerns going into this draft?

Bluntly, here are mine:
1. We're back to a front office that loves the big splash in the off season. I don't want that "winning off the field" moment to come in the form of a trade that involves the QB.

2. That this draft, based on BPA, will look eerily similar to the last one, which was a 4 offensive player to 3 defensive player ratio. We have to reverse that.

3. That we minimize trading down and get real value (meaning fewer long term projects) for our picks...we have 10 of them!

4. That we don't trade our picks up prior to the 4th round.

5. Almost no experiments, want a safety, draft a safety, want a linebacker, draft a linebacker, you get the idea.

We are not far away from the beginning of this draft....what are your concerns about what happens in this draft as we approach our time on the clock?

My biggest concern is the guys picking, and that we waste our first pick on best player available and not fill a position of need. In my opinion if you go with BPA it tells me you really haven't a clue. Or at least not doing the team itself any favors. To get better you have to fill your biggest hole, and hope he starts.. not add depth to a position already serviceable.

The most successful player personnel people ever totally disagree with you so I'm going with them. Now there are exceptions,, Philly will not take a QB in the first and of course if the players are close you fill a need. But all the professionals say it is a mistake for long term building to pass over better players to fill a need.

Im saying be smart with this pick.. and therein lies my worry. Lets say Foster and McCaff are still there at 17.. McCaff is rated higher on their board but Foster is more of a need at this time. Gotta go with Foster, but I believe Snyder will want a bigger fan base splash. Dont get me wrong,, wouldt cry over McCaff if selected just think u have to address the bigger need with 17... same with 2nd round. After that you go BPA.

Yeah I get that. I would not like to see a left tackle at 17 even if he is the BPA. As for Snyder I'm his biggest hater but I think the reputation that he is looking for the big splash pick is totally overrated. I mean just look at how many people were happy with the Scherff pick and that was hardly a big splash pick.

That was hardly Snyder's call though. Dan likes to give people just enough rope to look like he has learned, but you see he snatched SM back like a lap dog chasing a Squirrel when all was said and done.

That was perhaps a SM pick who understood the need for boring pick now and again... Snyder is the GM this draft. Anything goes.

BPA makes sense. There isn't a team in football that is set through all positions in any area. You take BPA to give yourself the best chance at success on that pick.

There are obviously positions that are weighted greater in the BPA world such as QB and LT. There are also positions that are weighted less such as RB and ILB.

That is why I like BVA.

I am not expecting the big splash pick. I understand why people are worried but I don't think that is going to be the case.

I would not be surprised a few weeks after the draft to see Scott Campbell promoted to GM. SC in for SM.

My point was plenty of people got excited over the pick, even if it was a controversial pick to many of us. It's a false claim that fans only get excited at QB, WR so called "sexy" picks. Nearly everyone loved the Trent pick. Especially around here where OL is so revered. Fans today recognize the need for good players in the trenches, there is no need for a "big splash" pick whatever that is.

D. Manley
J. Crowder
E. Elliott

D. Marino....we all know why he fell.

For every Lawrence Phillips and A. Hernandez, there are the guys listed above who live on the edge, but ball out on Sundays and in some cases end up in the Hall of Fame.

4. Skins offense stalls because we though we could replace Desean Jackson and P. Garçon with a former QB and a guy that can't or won't get on the field. So we pass on RB to grab a couple of defensive guys who are not difference makers and our defense is still toward the bottom of the league and now our offense is just average and we fall to 6-10.

For the record, I'm not RB or bust. Foster and Reddick would not hurt my feelings. Guys like Watt, Lamp, McDowell, etc....over Cook, Mixon, or McCaffrey would.

This is true. I have been guilty of this in the past. I was pissed when we took Chris Samuels. I wanted Peter Warrick. Lol. It happens.

I totally agree with you on the first part. If character was so important we'd have a roster with 52 choir boys and a Boy Scout. No you need players and like it or not many great players have an edge. Think Dallas regrets taking Dez?

A lot of GMs say they won't take bad character guys, then we see a week after saying this SM signs Jr Galette who was cut from a team desperate for defensive help due to off the field stuff. I say within reason do not shy away from taking guys like this, Al Davis built champions this way before he went crazy.

Same as every other year. Another draft has rolled around and I'm a fan of a team that doesn't know what the fuck its doing.
