So banging milfs on a nightly basis won't be frowned upon?

Oh a mime fan too huh?

On one level Ranger seems weird to me, but on another I do not think he can be all that enamored with the lifestyle of an NHL player if he made that choice.

It's pretty sweet that he was willing to give up so much for her...but dang he chose the wrong one to give it all up for. Of course there's probably more to the story (sleeping around on some side, etc.)...

This story is so sweet.

Did I say sweet? I meant stupid!! What, are they in the 8th grade? If she is insecure enough to need to keep her eyes on her man at all times she should just pass another note to some other boy in math class.

It sure sounds like this relationship has a bright future though. I can't see any future issues of guilt or resentment, can you guys? :L

Am I missing more details? From what I read it just said they tried a long distance relationship and it didn't work. I did not read anything about her worried about what or who he was up to.

I know tons of couples who tried long distance relationships and from what I see they rarely work so I can understand her breaking it off. If she is more important to him than his career, as silly as that may seem, than I do not fault his choice. Feel free to laugh at me. :)

Guys like this cannot be trusted by NHL teams.

Why not? Because he is a self aware man? Would it be better for NHL teams if he handled the pressure with substance abuse?

I think I can understand a bit what he's saying. Being around young hockey players with my son, even at the pee wee age group I can see some of the better kids already starting to miss out on life. I see my son talk about video games or his BMX bike and some of the kids look at him like "you do stuff outside hockey?". Any kid who goes through that doesn't get to experience enough outside the world to know how to handle simple things, let alone complex pressures of being an elite athlete. And this guy, growing up in Toronto to boot?

Most societies view athletes as superhuman and we spend all our time alternately praising and bashing them, but we hardly ever take the time to realize that they are people who never experienced the world we live in. Not one pro athlete out there started out working part time in a store and rose to where they are. They are kids who are told they are infallible as long as they perform and ordinary rules don't apply to them. It's why some athletes don't understand why it's wrong to bring a gun to a locker room or why they kill their friends in a rental car. Because they have NO grip on reality.

This guy does. A solid one. And he knew that it was not going to end well for him on the path he was on, so he pulled the chute. Sure he could have found an artificial coping method and kept going because "that's what you do". And maybe we would have eventually remembered his as fondly as we remember Derek Boogard. Or at least Theo Fleury.

Maybe Brian McGrattan.

Hopefully he helped those AAA kids as much as they seemed to help him.

Nice post 43 - Only thing I would add is that in Theo's case, he dealt with terrible things as a young kid that no kid should have to deal with that probably led to his substance abuse problems.

Valid point, but I was struggling to find a more relevant example and didn't want to use Ray Emery. :)

or Rick Rypien

No shortage of players who have suffered depression or other mental issues which lead to substance abuse or in recent years, suicide.
