The only one I'm not sure about is UConn.

yeah what hurts their case the most is:

1. being a "newcomer" and not developing their program into a powerhouse until very late in the game
-first final four in 1999
-just one elite 8 before 1990

2. being 27th on the all time wins list:

yeah they should get a mention. what really hurts their case is

1. the majority of their final fours came from an era where the tourny was not as competitive & had only 8 teams

2. they lack program consistency (they have a 35 year gap with just a single elite 8)

3. all time wins rank 31st, all timing winning percentage rank 32nd

4. they only have one national championship game appearance since 1961

im just going to go ahead and put them in the top 20 while giving them a golf clap

Arizona is a top ten program, but they are about 9th or 10th on most lists I've seen. I know you hate us and all, but it's true.

Illinois, Ohio State, Arizona, Michigan and Minnesota should all be ahead of UConn on an alltime list. They should all be ahead of MSU, alltime, as well, IMO.

lets see......

22nd all time wins

a whopping 3 tourny appearances before the tourny expanded to 64 teams

a single tourny appearance before 1976

um......no

if they had more FFs or a 2nd natty they would have a better case but they dont. while SU has as many Nattys & only 1 more FF than zona. what puts SU over the top is being #5 all time wins, #5 all time winning percentage, 8th in all time tourny bids

My list has always been:

UNC
UK
UCLA
Indiana
Kansas
Duke
UConn
Louisville
Michigan State
Syracuse

But UK has another title since I did my rankings last, so I might put Kentucky at #1 now, but I wouldn't argue if you had them 1 or 2. (I've argued against having UCLA in the 1 or 2 spot, but at this point, I'd probably concede that too)

yeah we are pretty close. Its hard to argue exact rankings. (what gets more weight wins or natty) and how important is a pre 1985 tourny bid vs a post 1984 bid? or what about a pre 1960s FF?

a lot of it is based on opinion of which stats are the most important. i can easily understand people wanting to rank msu over su and vice versa. same with ucla & uk

You have keen senses. (Especially on the MSU part.). But I seriously don't consider UConn historically great.

historically.....

no and you are right on that.

but they have 3 nattys........
