I've heard senility can be a bitch. I'm sorry it hit you so hard.

Ahh, no, see you are wrong yet again - The correct term would be: epiphany.

Now, go look it up and tell your mom what you learned today.

Don't worry, kid, I'll help you spew some real zingers on me!

I don't think anyone would consider epiphany to be "a bitch."

Or maybe senility can be an epiphany?

Oooo, I have to disagree with that. I'm sure many people have epiphanies they consider to be "a bitch".

As I said above, that's a moot point. We're not debating their respective careers. We're discussing who the better option is for next year.

For next year, maybe, and that's a big maybe, Smith but we want a guy long term and I think long term, Sanchez will have more upside than Smith. After seven years I think we've seen what Smith is: When he's on, he's decent, when he's not he is awful. I'd call him middle of the pack and say that we have seen the best of him. I'm not so sure we have with Sanchez. Get him some good coaching and a little more experience and not have him play in that archaic offense and he could be much improved.

smith's upside is rich gannon. 2nd year in the system will be huge, and it'll be the first time smith had a coordinator 2 years in a row (knock on wood). heck, it'll be huge for everyone because they'll have a full offseason to analyze strengths and weaknesses. not to mention add some missing pieces, tweak the playbook, etc.

our d has been so good this year that we didn't need smith to open things up, but he has performed when needed. to say we've seen the best of smith to me is nonsense. there is pre-eagles game 2010 smith and post-eagles game 2010 smith.

smith vs sanchez. smith started as a 21 year old and lost a full season before he completed his 3rd season. after smith came back he did more with a lot less than dirty sanchez. if i'm the jets, i make a move on flynn because i don't see the upside in sanchez.

I disagree. When Smith is on, he's decent. When he's off, at least this year, he's kind of bad. To be awful, he'd have to be turning the ball over. And he hasn't been doing that for a year and a half. Sanchez is awful when he's off, making major and devastating mistakes.

Sanchez has played some awful games this year. Not sure if that is all on him though. That whole team from Rex Ryan on down is dysfunctional. They are supposed to be a running team yet Sanchez throws 60 passes against the Giants. I don't think anyone, especially Ryan, knows what they want to do on offense. Their OC is no better. The Jets were ecstatic I heard to hear that he was interviewing for the Jags head job. Sanchez is in the same situation now that Smith was in under Nolan.

sanchez has much more to work with while smith didn't even have a coordinator once turner bolted. the giants are weak in the secondary so i think they were trying to exploit that, but sanchez just can't do it. even with the talent they have for him to throw the ball to

I seem to recall hearing early in the season that the Jets were hoping to pass more. Obviously that approach didn't work out so well. I don't have a tremendous sense of the extent to which that's because Sanchez struggled or the playcalling was to blame. I saw some Jets games, more than most non-NFC West teams, but not a ton and I wasn't watching them as closely as I watch the Niners, certainly. Obviously Brian Schottenheimer has strong pedigree, but he's only coordinated for the Jets so there isn't much basis for comparison. There must have been a reason for him changing his approach, though. It is worth noting that we threw a lot against the Giants, too.

There is very little doubt that they have more talent than we have had at any point except perhaps this year. Their OL has been great since Sanchez has been in the league, they've had a great stable of RBs, and their receivers this year were pretty darn good with Burress, Holmes (as a guy who owned him in fantasy, I can attest to the fact that his numbers were down, but he also drew some big penalties and got in the endzone quite often) and Keller. Not to mention that defense carrying the team.

I'm not ready to say Sanchez will always be awful. But when he struggles, it is MUCH uglier than Smith's struggles have been over the past season and a half.

You think Smith's ceiling is 4700 yards passing with a 68% completion percentage and 26 TDs/10 INT and 11.2 YPC? That would be quite a jump and would certainly sell me on Alex being a long term solution for the 49ers.

If Roman bolts, does Smith get another pass next year?

smith isn't getting a pass, but u have to put things into perspective. i don't think there ever was a qb that went through 8 coordinators in as many years. i think every coordinator and qb needs to be on the same page and that takes more than 1 season to do.

for the sake of the whole offense, we need some stability at the coordinator spot

It is hard to do. You either hire a guy who isn't going to be in demand for better jobs or hire a guy with no ambition for a better job or you hire a guy who will succeed and then bolt.
