the season's almost over, so it's time to look at larger sample sizes than 20 games.

a few idiots may be duped into thinking an anomalous few weeks of decency means anything heading into next year, sadly.

1) a competent GM who fires a lot of people at all levels, major and minor, and knows how to build a farm and make good strategic trades
2) professional outfield
3) professional bullpen
4) starting pitching that doesn't break 2 at a time for half a season

that's what it will take to get a winning season more than once or twice a decade for this shitty organization

it's wonderful seeing the royals succeed, and maybe we'll get to experience it again for the first time in 15 years when 2016 comes around. i wouldn't count on it, though.

Couldn't agree more. The season has been over for more then a couple of months now so the "pressure" hasn't been the same. I mean how often did we see guys like Smoak and Ackley play better in the 2nd half once the year is over. Other then Marte there aren't really any young pieces that we have been able to get a look at it.

Without looking up the record I think they have been about 4 games over the last month. 5-1 vs the terrible As and about .500 vs everyone else. I really don't think you can take anything out of the last month and apply it to next year.
