I think I'd rather have Shane Falco, dude at least has heart.

I guess Flacco will tell us if our new offensive scheme works at least. They picked him over Foles because of that.

It's such a good move that Vegas lowered our chances of winning the SB. :)

I’m now wondering if Flacco will be good enough to bridge the gap between now and when Trevor Lawrence becomes draftable.....:2cents:
You mean bad enough. A team is going to tank for Lawrence to the tune of 1 or no wins.

You mean they dropped from 90:1 to 60:1, according to Vegasinsider

Actually it depends on the bookie. Some lowered the odds, some improved the odds, and some left them the same. Of course, the odds are designed to maximize the money the bookmaker makes, not necessarily designed to be a reliable predictor of future performance.

Is Elway really allocating $36MM to have Flacco minus Keenum . That seems crazy.

That math seems a bit off. Flacco would cost $18.5MM I believe. Keenum would only cost $10MM against the cap if we released him, $21MM if we keep him. ($18MM salary + $3MM signing bonus) If we trade him, he’d only count $3MM in dead money.

That’s a combined $21.5MM if we trade Keenum away, or $28.5MM if we release him.

That's not as bad as I thought it would be, really. Seems like it would be easy enough to trade the guy away. If nothing else Keenum is a decent back up who can start for you if you need him to.

Trading Keenum won't be easy, as most teams don't want to pay a backup QB $18mm. If he were being traded as a starter, someone would pick him up but after watching film on Keenum from 2018.....not so much.

It's my understanding that Keenum - in a trade - will only costs the acquiring team $7 million which is slightly below average for a back up QB in the league.

Yeah, I must have been mistaken. Thought I heard that somewhere. Math is not my strong point.

I see my error and you are mostly correct

Flacco guaranteed money transfers at 18.5 MM which is also his cap charge

Now Keenum cap hit is $10 MM if he is not on the roster

The cash Denver will owe him is the difference between $21 MM and his new salary.

There are always two numbers
Cap and cash

All teams have the same cap but not all teams have the same cash.

The $21MM includes $3MM in signing bonus which was already paid, and a salary of $18MM, of which $7MM is guaranteed.

Not sure how the guarantees work on that though. But that’s why he would count $10MM against the cap if we released him. I imagine in that scenario we would have to pay him the $7MM.

I’m guessing there’s a stipulation in the contract that pays him $1.125MM for each game he starts at QB. So if he is a backup, he’d only get paid the $7MM guaranteed.

No matter what Case Keenum will receive $7MM this year if he plays or doesn't play. If he plays then Denver will be on the hook to pay Case $7MM - his new base salary for this year. Cash out for Denver.

Was told Denver just views Keenum as a sunken cost. What's done is done but he is DONE in Denver. Traded (likely still, even if Denver has to lose slightly in draft pick) or cut, he is gone. He was Kubiak's guy always. They want a QB who they have to tell to dial it back and can push the ball, not someone you are yelling at in practice to stop dumping it off.

I would reserve judgment on the OL until 1) We see what Munchak can do with this unit and 2) what the Broncos do in FA for the OL. I look at what a quality OL coach can do in that of the Patriots. Scar retired for a year and that was the year Brady got the crap beat out of him especially in the AFC Championship game against the Broncos. The next year Scar comes back and boom they are a top-10 unit once again. Look what he did with Brown that they traded to play RT for them. Had an injury so had to move him to LT and he was actually very good at the position.

Just keep this in mind....11 TD's, 0 INT's, beat #1 & #2 seeds on the road and MVP with the #17th ranked D and Boldin and Jacoby Jones as his wr's....
And I think you'll warm up to him...

Joe Flacco is pulling a Trent Dilfer 17 years later (only with worse numbers)
