Week 9 @ NE

I don't know how long it will last, but the Patriots are the #1 pass defense in the NFL as we speak. Having added Revis has helped and now that Browner has a couple of games under his belt, the secondary appears to be getting better. McCourty and Chung have been outstanding at safety. The league has watched the Patriots very closely the past few weeks and the secondary has been right up on the line of scrimmage and pounding the receivers before they get 5 yards. Everything has been by the book, and it's taken teams out of sync early. They back off later in the game but by then it's been too late.


As was stated earlier, the matchups will be interesting. I think Revis will be on Sanders with McCourty over the top and Browner will attempt to hold up D. Thomas at the line and not let him get free to do his typical big guy damage. This isn't the typical old Patriots with 5'9" 185 lb corner backs.


As I stated in the Patriots board......a late INT will turn the tide one way or the other for one team and the team with the ball will be fighting their way to get into FG position with the clock running out.

I think the Broncos are going to kick the shit out of the Patriots on Sunday. I could see us putting up 50 on them if the weather conditions are decent, 40 if not. The only damage they will do will be with Gronk, but that won't be nearly enough. The defense is going to put Brady on his back at least twice, and he will be under pressure constantly, which could lead to multiple turnovers.

Offensively, we are beginning to roll. The line is getting better, the running game is coming around, and the passing game is virtually unstoppable. We just have too many weapons on offense, with one of the greatest field generals to ever play the game calling the shots. The only advantage that they have is coaching. This is a big part of a team of course, but I don't think even Belichick can cook up a recipe for a win at this point.

The Broncos are just going to be like a runaway freight train, and the Patriots are going to be Polly Purebread, tied to the tracks. I can't wait to see Manning put another notch in his belt against Tom Brady.

That would be awesome! Hope you are right, of course, but I'm expecting a much closer score. I agree that Denver has been getting better over the past several weeks, but I also think that NE has done the same. I am also concerned about the prospect of defending Gronk and Wright if the Pats use two TEs a lot like they did against Chicago last week.

The potential is definitely there. Pats were held to 16 points last time the two teams met, and were down 24-0 at halftime last time they met in NE.

Patriots have feasted against less than stellar competition the past few weeks. Even the Bengals win is losing it's luster, seeing how that team has done recently (even the Panthers hung 37 points on them).

Sure, Gronkowski improves things a bit, and will likely get his points. But I wouldn't expect a replay of the Bears game for the Pats offense.

I think this is one of those games I don't see the Broncos getting blown out. I could see the Patriots win a close one, the Broncos win a close one, or the Broncos win a blow out. I just don't see our defense ever giving up a huge game. At most I can see our defense giving up 31 in a game. Now given that might be homeristic of me to think that way but this defense just looks like it is getting better. When we first started the season they were in the 20's in rankings in many areas. Yet here we are about half way through the season with a top-5 defense that just seems to get better. Seems like a lot of the games we have played teams get most of their points when the Broncos are up by 2-3 touchdowns and Del Rio and Fox decide to go prevent just a bit early.

Oh man that does not look like a fun schedule. Broncos thankfully have made it through probably the tougher part of their schedule once Sunday is over. After that we have a couple more on the road but against Oakland and St. Louis. We follow that up with Miami, @Kansas City (might be our toughest game left after you guys), then Buffalo, @San Diego, @Cincinnati, and finish with Oakland at home. We have it a little tough just because so much of the schedule is on the road but I would guess Oakland and St. Louis should be wins, at least one of the Kansas City/San Diego road games the Broncos should win, and Cincinnati I just don't even know what to expect from them anymore. We should finish undefeated at home though with Miami, Buffalo, and Oakland our remaining home games. Nothing is guaranteed obviously but I do like our chances of that. So I would say for the Broncos 11-5 is about the worst they could do as long as injuries don't all of a sudden come out of nowhere.

Of course no one knows how the game will play out. I can easily imagine a pretty wide range of outcomes, including either team blowing out the other. A critical mistake or three can easily be the difference between a tight game and a blowout.

Several factors suggest to me that a close game is more likely than a blowout, however. First, both teams have played really well the past month. While the Broncos defense is particularly improved over that stretch, so too is the Pats offense, having scored 158 points while going 4-0 as opposed to scoring only 82 points and going 2-2 in September. Attribute that improvement to having not faced good defenses the past month if you like, but it's not at all clear to me that NE's first four opponents were significantly better than its past four.

It makes perfect sense to me that NE's offense has gotten better the past month, since that corresponds to the same time period during which Gronk has gotten healthy and the second TE Tim Wright has been worked more into their offense. Brandon LaFell also seems to be settling in more with his new team. I think they have also had to start some new players on the o-line (i.e., a rookie center and a replacement for Mankins).

Finally, NE is historically a pretty good home team, having won 16 in a row on their field. Hope we go in and blow them out, of course, but that certainly doesn't seem to me the most likely outcome. Rather, I expect a close game that's decided near the end, but who knows?

....I think 12-4 is within reason for us......[11-5/definitely].,....you guys should have a better record I would think.

I expect the Broncos beat the Bengals in Cincinnati, but keep in mind that Cincinnati is a much different team at home, and that game against Indy, well half our team seemed to be hurt. We were using our 4th, 6th and 7th LB's on the depth chart, one of which is a safety normally in Taylor Mays.

Cincinnati has held opposing QB's to a 59 QBR in the last 12 home games, they are still undefeated there (even with that crappy game against the Panthers). They lead the league in QBR from a defensive stand point overall at 73. In a game everyone expected the hot Ravens to come in and spank us, they got beat. A lot of controversy over a couple plays, but in the end, those were the right calls, without question.

Denver is a special team and probably primed to win the SB this year in my opinion, but it is not going to be as much of a cake walk as a lot think playing in Cincinnati. NE is very tough at home also and playing much better lately. I expect a close game.

On paper they are a top-3 team in the AFC with the roster they have built. Dalton to me is one of the bigger mystery quarterbacks in the entire league in he can have that 4 touchdown game and really carry the team only to the next week really struggle. So to me with the Broncos going to Cincinnati it just depends which version of them decides to show up. IT could also depend on how tight the race for the divisions is at that time. I could see the Broncos if they win on Sunday building a pretty nice size lead in the division and those last couple of games being a bit more where the team is starting to rest a couple of players to get them ready for the playoff run. At the same time if the division race is close I could see the Broncos viewing that as a must win type. Who knows as that is a long ways away and we have no clue where our teams will be or who is hurt.

I still expect the Broncos to win regardless of health, but...Cincinnati has been badly plagued with injuries this year. Fortunately, only 1 has been an IR to a very important player, Marvin Jones...however, the amount of injuries piling up lasting between two to 4 weeks for most players is really starting to take its toll on depth. Burfict is now out for another 3 weeks due to a scoped knee. He is the heart of that defense. Green being hurt has slowed our offense a bit, along with Jones and Eifert. Cincinnati is a broken team right now, and if they can muster a way to get through the new few weeks to get Green, Burfict and Eifert back, I think they can maybe a stronger surge towards the end of the season.

No one wants to play the Broncos right now though. They are just too good in my opinion. Manning is a machine. Greatest QB of all time. No doubt in my mind. Brady maybe a close second as he has done a lot with little help with the offense. Manning just needs those SB victories, and I think it is possible with the team makeup that Manning wins maybe another 2 SB rings in the next 3 years.

I agree with you, Crash, that the Broncos may win multiple super bowls. It comes down to if we can resign some of our better free agents athe end of the season. This means the 2 Thomas's.

This might have been mentioned already but I heard Hilman injured shoulder in practice I believe Tues. He was quoted as say ing " I should be fine". Anybody hear any more on this? Might mean we see alot more Juwann come Sunday if Hilman is still not 100%.

Hillman was limited in practice again today but is expected to play and be fine. No structural damage from what I understand just landed on it a bit funny and bruised it. Not sure how much it will affect his carries for Sunday though. Might see him get a few less and Thompson get a bit bigger role.

Alright so how about the RB position...Seems like a bunch of no names (can't say much as most people haven't heard of our backs either) but what can you tell us about them? Or any Pats fan coming on here just some friendly questions to get to know your team...

Another would be what has happened to Dobson? I heard he was a healthy scratch for the last game...Is he a bust or do you expect anything from him this season?

Any young players that are really beginning to make a name for themselves?

What do you think of all the trades that NE has been making lately? Seems like BB is getting back to his trade happy days...or maybe he just never left them.

Asill make a difference. for the RB's, I've been begging to get Gray active since before the season. This kid will be a good one, IMHO.

The rookie -Stork has needed the practice and playing time but I think he will be playing center for a long time.

We don't have any real info out of NE on Dobson (imagine that). To return from broken foot you have to take it slow to return to top shape and being out of shape and playing hard is how you break a bone in your foot. I'm guessing he can only practice so much and cannot get past other receivers to get on the field. Tyms is going to be a good one, unless someone gets hurt, Dobson is not getting a chance to get back on field.
