I didnt know that .. cause I didnt get the game .. you are right face .. I understand why Villaneuva was outside , that flag has a much more special meaning to us vets
I agree. And I think it was a strong message that the team was sending. Why else have only a veteran out on the field to stand alone? Next week its a guarantee they are all back out on the field for the anthem. This was all about sending a message. Fuck the media for slaughtering that message & making anyone believe otherwise.

Maybe if these idiots would've concentrated more on beating the stinky Bears than disrespecting the flag, they could have won.

I'm hearing Alejandro Villanueva went out to salute the flag on his own and THEN the team followed. There is an article on the Disney liberal sports network basically saying that DEEBO is upset because the team agreed to one thing and AL did something else. Last thing we need is locker room troubles right now.

Watch his jersey become the first O lineman jersey to reach the top.

Week 3 Recap

Congrats to Da Bears...they earned it. Old fashion beating...OFC, DEF, and ST the Bears were better.

General comments...you don't have to dig too hard to find fault in this game when the opponent rushes for 200+ yds. Aside from the DL/DEF...the high powered OFC is not looking so high powered. Tomlin played this one fairly close to the vest by his standards...with the game in the balance he punted or took a FG. imo it was the right move, but

DEF...2 of 5...I think both Face and I have praised the depth and quality of play of the DL the 1st two weeks. Hargrave played a great game overall, but the DL overall got spanked yesterday by a patchwork OL. It seemed like everytime they needed the edge on the toss sweep they got the edge...I saw Captain get hooked/held really bad on one play that went for big yds, but they got 200+ yds on the ground...they weren't hooking and holding and all 200+. Second level tackling was poor....On the TD to the TE I wonder if Dirty Red was out of position.

Although they only gave up 100 yds passing, they allowed a couple drives to extend on 3rd and long that really hurt...especially on their last 4Q drive...rushing 4 too much for my taste, but #23, dropped a 2nd pick from Glennon under duress.

OFC...2 of 5...the lure of the 1 on 1 deep ball on 3rd down is starting to bother me a little bit. Get the damn 1st down!! JJ getting dinged up didn't help matters. I thought Hubbard had a rough game, and several presnap penalties...the possession after the pick I thought they were too conservative there after being aggressive most of the game deep. Zero targets to Rogers...punishment?

ST...1 of 5...2 turnovers in the kicking game really was the deciding factor if you ask me.

FWIW...Cohen wasn't out, should have been a game winning TD. Every yr it seems the Steelers have a game like this. I'm not going to pin this one on Tomlin not having them ready...but his DC/OC didn't have great games.

side note...AVill is getting beat more often this season so far. Some thing watch next week.

Typical Steelers game against below average teams. I don't understand what is it about this team and year after year, we do poorly against underachieving teams. Also, I've said this before he was drafted, but Tarik Cohen is the real mother fucking deal. He was the steal of the draft in my opinion. Kid is a speed demon. That running game, as long as they can both stay healthy, might be one of the most dangerous combos on the ground in the NFL.

3 Bears passes completed 5+ yards from LOS, and they still win.

Tomlin does have that on his record. This one I understand ...0-2 desperate team at home...you were going to get their best effort and they did. They had the ball and 1 Timeout...52 seconds...very poorly executed...I think the Bears a got a sack with a 3 man rush...Steelers just didn't play well.

Yeah, I've seen them twice now...Howard didn't do much in the ATL game, but he was a beast yesterday. Allowing those two 3rd and longs to be converted really hurt the DEF.

Told myself I wasn't going to knee-jerk another writeup... But I'm seething & cannot help myself.

Coaching... Ah, another Mike Tomlin Classic. Honestly don't know how we can be mad about these failures anymore. Every year I tell myself to expect this, but never learn my lesson. I think we can put to bed that age old debate that Tomlin sucks at preparing his team. Thus how could anyone argue that he is an inferior coach that is vastly overrated. What a horrid display of football. They weren't penalized as much, but they were very sloppy. Haley's offense was 4/11 on 3rd downs. Can't tell you how many times Haley passed on 1st down & squandered drives. That was an incredibly predictable day by Haley. Butler's defense couldn't stop the run all damn day. The pressure was erratic on passing downs. Bears imposed their will when it mattered most. F-----

Offense... Garbage. Nothing positive to take away from this game. O-line was down both Gilbert & Foster for most of the game. Bears D-line dominated. Ben looked awful. Bell looked awful. Receivers couldn't get open. Lots of missed blocks. If it weren't for the Bears gift wrapping them 1st downs for most of the day this could have been even uglier (if you can even imagine that). F

Defense... After some early blunders they looked ok for 2 quarters giving little away. But that had more to do with the Bears shooting themselves in the foot a lot. Tackling was laughable all game long. Seemed like everyone was going for that highlight reel type hit and forgetting basic fundamentals. Mike Mitchell is awful. I think Wilcox should get more opportunities. His tackling wasn't much better, but I think with a full week of prep he'll show up to play. F

ST... LOL. Terrible. Coverage was terrible. Punting was terrible. Boz was ok. Wasn't his fault his unit can't block. Was laughing my ass off during that shitshow before the half. F

Overall... Team decided to sit out the anthem, and proceeded to sit out the game. LOL. Can I please have those 3 hours back that I wasted watching this garbage? Thank the Bears for at least gifting the Steelers 17 points to avoid complete embarrassment. EVERY DAMN YEAR, THEY PULL THIS SHIT. Every year, their tackling form is a hideous abomination. Every year, they fail to make incredibly basic adjustments. This may well be the only game the Bears win all year, and of course, it’s brought to you by the circus Tomlin and Co. I’m sick of doing mental backflips to try & justify it. I’m tired of it. No heart. No fundamentals. How many weapons do they have on offense? This is a joke. I’m mad, and I’m tired of putting up with this same crap every year. The sun will indeed come up tomorrow. But when they’re playing a road game in the playoffs in a few months and struggling, think back to this garbage. The writing is on the wall. This is why this team will never be "elite" & will always fall flat on its face. Would love for the team to make an example of someone, but they won't. F

Outlook... Team stays on the road going into a very hostile environment for a divisional matchup with the Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium. Ravens just got punched in the mouth over in England, so expect a very pissed off group. Couple that anger with a team still souring over missing the postseason thanks to the Steelers last year... Flacco will likely get the start, but not that it would matter. Mallett is every bit as capable if the Steelers look like they did today. Steelers will look to regroup & get back on track, but I'm just not seeing it. Even against a banged up Baltimore team. Steelers just don't have the chemistry right now, and their coaches aren't doing them any favors.
Couldn't agree more with your grades.

What we can always count on with Mike Tomlin teams:

1. We will be competitive over the course of the season.
2. But it won't really matter because we will play scared and lose to the Patriots.
3. We will ALWAYS lose a couple of games a year to teams that we should EASILY beat.

I'm sorry, at this point it has to be coaching. I don't know if he's cracking jokes all week about how awful the other team is and how we don't even have to try? He NEVER prepares his teams for these games. NEVER.

posted this in the AFCN Hate Guide thread... But feel like repeating myself:

Mike Tomlin is the Joe Flacco of coaches...

A lot of elite talk, will get the job done most of the time, but underwhelms plenty.

You are one of the few. The Bears' draft was publicly annihilated by most every media outlet out there. Pace was just a big dumbshit to fucking everyone. Not only the Trubisky trade(which I am perfectly ok with fwiw) but also because the rest of his picks, but one, were from small D2 schools.

I think the Bears' GM is actually pretty solid with respect to drafting.

Now if he'd just sack up and put Trubs in.

Is he trying to avoid the public ridicule of paying $15mil per year for a backup? lol. I'm sure he's probably already taking those lumps. I think he knows he "made his bed" by overpaying Glennon.

I dunno man, the deal ends up being ostensibly a one-year "try-out" deal. Realistically, it wouldn't hurt the Bears one iota to sit him. I mean guys like Hoyer and McCown and the likes are getting similar deals this year, and there's a good chance both will hit the bench at some point or another this season.

Again, I think the Media over-exaggerates these deals. Maybe it's just from the team being shitty for so long now, but it really seems the media is anti-Bears. Maybe it's 2nd-city stuff er something, or it's just click-bait, revenue-streaming bullshit, but they made that shit seem in stone that Glennon was getting 45 mil er what ever. 15 mil for a stop-gap starter is not that ridiculous IMO.

True. Only $18.5 mil guaranteed or some shit like that. But still, for 1 season you gotta pay due diligence with that amount. Not easy to cut ties when you're on the hook for that amount. Maybe in a few more weeks Trubs will get the keys to that offense. Season is still young!

That's what I'm thinking. I think they wanted to see how bad we suck first. Lol.

We are decimated at the receiver position, which wasn't great to begin with. Maybe sitting him is prudent at this juncture?:noidea:

I'm not 100% in agreement (maybe 99%), but well stated as always...with passion. Love it!

CHI...having seen the Bears vs ATL already I knew they had a decent DEF and could run it...in their yard down 0-2, they came out to defend it...once they found that soft spot in the Steeler DEF...it was a wrap...They don't have the passing game to win many games on the road, so you're probably right, 3 or 4 victims and Tomlin was one again. They never improved from the beginning of the game until the end on tackling...never did...that I can lay at Tomlin.

Butler...they got pressure at times, but for the most part he played a conservative 4 man rush and with them running it like they were...why not give Deebo a few more snaps? IDK, I think in those 3rd and longs he needed to force Glennon to make a quicker decision...that really burned me on their last 4Q possession...I don't grade the coaches, but I agree with yours.

Outlook...just trying to take a broader look thru 3 games. In spite of the game in CHI I still think the DEF is moving in the right direction...being down Tuitt should not have those kinds of results...imo tackling requires some technique, but it's largely a "want to" thing...looking at some of the breakdown plays over at Steelerdepot...it was a collective effort, but Mitchell's tape is going to be bad.

BAL should follow the same script that CHI did and if we get a similar result then I will have seen all I need to see in terms of this team being worth anything in JAN.

Generally speaking, I'm more displeased with the OFC thus far....14 pts vs CLE from the OFC. Same in the MIN game...+4 FGs bumped up the PA stat....then 17 yesterday. On 3rd down they look like a bottom 3rd OFC right now. The Ravens defend Haley's OFC better than any other team, so if he doesn't come with some wrinkles this week, the Steelers will be looking at the annual trip to BAL ending in another loss.

Butler proved he is every bit as incapable as Haley as far as in-game adjustments go. They are both way too black & white for the NFL. They draw out a gameplan, more than likely based on past team's successes/failures vs the opponent, and then they drive that nail all game long never compensating for shit. It kills me. It's not f*cking rocket science. To Butler's credit though, if his players could tackle the gameplan would have worked.

Tackling... I'm so sick of seeing players overpursue like a bull racing past a matador. Shazier & Mitchell are the worst offenders in that category. Dupree & V-Will are guilty of this on occasion. So many times they are there to make the tackle in the backfield only to WHIFF right past the RB by 3-5yds. It doesn't make any sense. If you are unblocked you don't have to come screaming through the gap with zero awareness. Makes me long for Lawrence Timmons. He may have lost that step in coverage but he never missed tackles like that. Playing beside/behind LT for a few years you would think both Shazier & V-Will would have learned that lesson from him. LIke I said, it's as if they want to always make that highlight reel hit instead of using basic fundamentals. It's maddening.

Outlook... So true. If they look as pathetic against BAL then we will have seen all that we need to know about the future. One would assume both teams are going to go into this game pissed off & wanting to unleash hell. But honestly seeing how flat & passionless Pittsburgh has looked I don't have much faith going into this game. It kills me to look at the practice photos seeing everyone smiling & laughing like they aren't getting embarrassed weekly. They are very fortunate to be at 2-1 right now. And to me that sense of urgency just isn't there for them. They aren't playing like a team. Seems like everyone is out there for themselves right now. And I hate to bring this point up, but I have to question Ben's attitude as well. He has been relatively solid, but nowhere close to where he needs to be. The offense needs him to pick this team up by the bootstraps right now. And with him being this close to retirement I have to question whether he has the right mentality to do such a thing anymore. He took this week to the chin and admitted he was playing poorly. Let's hope that he can get this team back on track.
