Week 2 officially begins tonight. Time to turn the page. It's over. Yes, Caleb and the offense laid an egg. Yes, our defense (and special teams) bailed us out. Yes, it looked a lot like a Lovie Smith era Bears game. The fans and media have rehashed this plenty of times now.
At the end of the day, we're 1-0 and it's a new week.
So...
Sunday Night Football - Caleb's first prime time game. This one definitely jumped out upon seeing the schedule release. Not just CW's first game in prime time, but also our D going up against the QB who put up one of the best rookie seasons... well... perhaps ever last season. Stroud is the real deal, IMO.
This was billed as a game that would feature a pair of fun offenses with young, promising QB's. Our offense was anything but "fun" in week 1. In fact, many now believe this will be a lower scoring game. Which, I understand. If our offense doesn't significantly improve from last week's effort - our D is going to once again be burdened with giving us a chance.
It's sort of a "team strength vs team strength" with our defense squaring up against Houston's offense.
I think we see Caleb come around a bit here and look more in sync. I think he'll still misfire a couple and that we'll probably see his first turnover, at some point. However, I think by the first half's conclusion - we'll have an offensive touchdown to show for ourselves.
I think we hang in and that we CAN win this game. It's just a question of "where is this offense?". I am not going to read too much into Week 1's result, but I'm also not going to pretend like it never happened. I expect improvement, but I find it unlikely that we see a total 180 from our rookie QB in a 7 day span. I hope I am wrong!
Houston 26
Bears 20
