Season to date MVP’s:

Offensive: Alfred Morris has yet to put together a 100-yard game, due primarily to lack of opportunities. But he’s still fifth in the NFL in rushing yards with 316, a total that puts him on pace to gain about 1,250 yards. If he can get a few more carries and have a few big games Morris could end up with another huge season.

Defensive: With five sacks on the season, Ryan Kerrigan is now tied for the league lead with Justin Houston of the Chiefs. Per Pro Football Focus, Kerrigan has a total of 21 quarterback pressures. On a defense that is designed to allow playmakers to do their thing, Kerrigan is the only one getting it done consistently.

Top three storylines:

Turnovers—After going minus-5 in turnovers against the Giants, the Redskins are at minus-5 for the season, in a tie for 29th in the league. The defense is designed to create takeaways but only six NFL teams have created fewer than the Redskins’ four.

Losing streak looming—The Giants game was big for the Redskins in part because of the road ahead for the team. They take on the defending champion Seahawks on Monday night and then they travel to Arizona to play the 3-0 Cardinals. It’s easy to see their current 1-3 record turning into 1-5.

Injury rehab advancing—On the positive side, it looks like the team could be getting some of its injured players back. TE Jordan Reed (hamstring) and DE Kedric Golston (groin) were in pads during the early part of Tuesday’s practice and participated in individual drills. It was the first time either player had done that much since they both were injured in the season opener.

Next three games

Monday vs. Seahawks (2-1)—We saw that the Seahawks were beatable in Week 2 in San Diego so the Redskins may have a shot here. In reality, however, staying competitive with Seattle and not suffering another prime-time debacle like the one last Thursday would be considered a step forward for the home team.

Oct. 12 @ Cardinals (3-0)—Arizona is not doing much offensively with Drew Stanton coming off of the dust heap to play quarterback for an ailing Carson Palmer (shoulder). But you can’t argue with 3-0 and they have been getting it done on defense, allowing just 15 points per game, tied for second best in the NFL.

Oct. 19 vs. Titans (1-3)—The Titans are in the same boat as the Redskins, not living up to even their modest expectations. “We have to look at what we are doing, how we are doing it,” said Tennessee coach Ken Whisenhunt after his team’s blowout loss to the Colts. That’s not a sign of a team headed in a positive direction.
