3 or the last 4 hires were 2 years and that was it . and we are still stuck

If we had hired Bruce Arians something tells me we wouldnt still be stuck. Its about who you hire not about how you hire them.

Bullshit. Arians wasn't some hot coach everybody wanted his whole career. He was a guy who had been around the league for a long time and had never been given a shot as a head coach. Look at Harbaugh, I believe he was a special teams coach. Good coaches come from all over the place, we can absolutely get one.

bruce arians is 63 yrs old , he had a 9-3 record as an interim HC he certainly doesnt qualify as young when he got his gig he was 60 yrs old and yes he was a "hot coach " because he was AP coach of the year for his 9-3 work

our history has us with the old ball coach (2 years ) zorn (2 years ) gruden ( 2 years )

what we are looking at is bevell from seatle , shaw from stanford and i doubt they take the job if all they get is 2 years to prove it

i dont care how you slice it , it takes one year to see what you have and where to go , the 2nd year is getting "your " guys and year 3 should be the "jelling point "

no coach , who is any good, will take a job with this team , its owner , and its roster and get only 2 years to be a winner sorry not going to happen

gruden in year one got saddled with RGme , hazmat , no real draft picks and crap roster and he gets only 2 years ( or less) to make it happen ?

I think the reality is that if Kirk has another game like this one against Tampa, we are likely looking at Colt after the bye.

Sad thing is that all the talk of putting Kirk in a situation to be Able to manage games this season has not happened. He's being put in the exact situation we all said he could not be good in.

On the contrary, a coach who knows what he is doing will likely understand that us moving on from bad coaches does not mean that he is doomed. He will know that his success or lack thereof will determine his job safety.

Also if we had hired Arians a year earlier would he have been any less successful? No.

The point is that there are coaches out there who would make good head coaches. That is a fact. They are also not only the big name guys. If the guys are out there (which they are) we have to try and find them.

History proves it can.

Arians, Quinn, Ryan, Harbaugh, McCarthy, Payton, Kelly, Whisenhunt all had early success. Im sure there are more.

The point is its possible to find a new coach even here in DC and its possible for a coach to have success quickly.

arians isnt young , quiin had a team in place for him , harbaugh had a team in place for him , mccarthy had a team in place for him , kelly has turned into urine , whisehunt the same but again those guys all took over teams who would let them get their program in place and didnt can them after 2 years

washington however hasnt and that is the whole point

1. Why does it matter if Arians is old? Ill take a 200 year old coach if he can get us wins.
2. All those guys took over bad teams. Hence why they were hired. Some may have had more talent than others but this isnt a talentless roster here. Another offseason of McGloughan and we should have a half decent roster. The big question is QB. If we get a QB theres no reason a new coach cant have quick success.
3. Those guys didnt get canned after 2 years because they were all successful!

I doubt age will be much of a factor in who we can get.

i believe it will because an older guy isnt going to take a career killer job like this when you get only 2 years

Or he would because he's finally getting a chance. Regardless it doesn't matter what age our coach is.

again i point to our recent history and it says we wont get a decent HC to take this job if he has only 2 years or less to prove it

You're saying that just because we haven't it means that we can't and that's not true. Just because we have sucked at hiring a coach in the past doesn't mean we aren't capable of finding a new one who is good and wants the job.

Isn't it funny how many times we debate symptoms and not cause? To his credit Dan Snyder will pay top dollar for almost anything team related. In fact Gruden's contract is 5 years guaranteed. At the same time he trusts an utter novice to make choices for him. Thankfully, even a boob will stumble upon something good once in a while....enter SM, in whom I'm betting is dead set on removing the stench wrought upon this organization by said boob, including selecting the next HC if there is going to be a change.

Because it's factually not true. I think I've explained why pretty clearly.

Every time that I hear something like this I think about Marty S & how he railed nonstop on ESPN about Snyder and how nobody would take a head coaching job with the Redskins. Sure enough shortly thereafter Marty signed on as the Redskins head coach. The Skins problem was subsequently getting rid of him.

I know that the Skins situation sounds bad to many. However - I definitely believe that they could find a very good head coach if they move on from Gruden because the situation is so much different at this time then compared to the last 5-10 years. You now have SM, you don't have a meddling Snyder, the current issues are not related to Snyder or overpriced FAs & they have a promising future in terms of a full contingent of picks, scouts, etc. Skinsdad - I don't believe that the situation is as bad as you portray it & a smart coach would realize that they could be a hero in this situation & get paid a ton of cash in the process.

As bad as this season appears I still believe that the future is bright & that is with or without Gruden.
