Way too soon look ahead to next year- what should we do with Torrey Smith in 2018?

Like the title says, I know this is way too soon, and obviously the FO and certainly the coaches are not thinking about this right now. But I wanted to get you guys' input.

Smith has been a disappointment thus far this year to me. He's occasionally shown flashes of his 2011-2015 run, but he's also disappeared for a lot of games. If you include his 2 playoff game numbers, he has had 44 receptions, 538 yards, and 3 touchdowns in 18 games. He also had a career low 11.9 Y/R (looking at the 16 regular season games he played in).

He's due to make $5 million in 2018, but we could also cut him and have $0 in dead cap space. Agholor, Jeffery, and Ertz will all be back for at least 2018. I know that $5 million isn't a ton of money but, to some degree, every dollar counts. Smith turns 29 this Friday. I'd be fine cutting him after the season.

Eagles will need cap space and what I would do is let Smith go. We can fill that spot with Hollins or someone else. I'm more interested in what will happen with Foles? We have him for 1 more year so if the right offer comes up, do we trade or keep him as a security backup to Wentz? I think we draft a LT in the draft and beef up the OL and maybe a LB? Justmy opinion.

Smith can go. They're going to have to move on from several contracts to get under the cap. Smith is an easy decision.

Mixed feelings,

seems Smith has been coming on lately. The $ 5 million saving is significant. I would say it depends on how he plays in the SB, and how things evolve next off-season.

I think I would cut him loose and keep Bradham here bc I think he is a FA? He's been huge and more of an impact on this team imo.

I was initially in favor of cutting him and saw it as a no brainer. But he does provide a deep threat. If he can keep producing as a deep threat, well, maybe you keep him. He is not super expensive.

I think he's been a huge disappointment this year, he's dropped way too many deep balls.

He has dropped way to many balls but he still gets open deep. That alone is valuable enough to keep defenses off of Ertz and Agholor. I am probably in the minority here but I think he is back. If Hollins was as good I think he would be playing now. I think Bradham gets resigned and that may cause Smith to be a cap casualty. But Howie is very good at manipulating the cap space.

Have to bring back Bradham to keep that continuity through the defense. This defense can be held together a few more years.

We'll take a run at the Super Bowl every year we still have this defense intact.

I can agree with this. Bradham is an absolute "want back" to me. He has been a force! But if he moves on I feel we can manage that.

As for Smith....the money just screams cut and move on. I expect the same with Celek. The rest is iffy to me at this point.

This offense is much better with a blocking TE like Celek. Can't get rid of him until we have a solution to replacing him. Have you seen Ertz try to block DEs? It's awful.

I seem to remember Burton recently showing he is a pretty good blocking TE. Solution is to go find a third string TE cheaper. Celek will be on my all time favorite list. But unless he takes a substantial cut (possible) I think the move on needs to happen there.

We are funny fans. So used to talking next year by this point. But this year isn’t done yet!

Got a feeling Celek retires on top if we win SB. Would love for the team to draft Hayden Hurst out of USC. He is ranked #1 TE by Daniel Jeremiah but like #6 TE by Kiper. Pretty deep TE and RB class this year.

It highlights the point with Celek. I totally see him retiring an Eagle if we win. If not perhaps he takes a big reduction to be involved next year. Cap space has to be made. I think Smith is a given with Hollins coming up behind him. The rest...let’s talk about that in mid Feb.

It will be a very interesting offseason no matter what happens in Minny. Guys will want to come play here. Question is if we can get one or two good contributors cheap.

You're right, it's way to early. Lots can happen between now and OTA's. Injuries, people coming back from injuries, FA. It's all just wild speculation at this point.

LOL Olsen and Walker still produce at a high level. The rest of your list rides in the same boat as Celek.
