I'm a Saints fan, so i love the Brees pick. Brees normally will go at the end of round one. I wonder how many carries Sproles will take away from McCoy.
I know way more people would agree with AP there and a lot of people would value AP higher (so I might have took AP then tried to trade him to the guy who took forte to get a little something else but that might not have worked out) but even though people think AP is an alien he is not. He blew out his knee twice all ready and is nearing that danger zone age limit where great RBs fall from the sky. Plus I believe the Vikings are going to open the airways and try and pass A LOT more. Still AP will be very productive but I'd rather have Forte because he also can put WR numbers with all the catches he makes.
I wrote this while waiting at a rest area, so I didn't list any reasoning. After 5 hours of driving and thinking. . Maybe it's not a HUGE mistake, but a mistake none the less.
To address a few of the things Foot brought up. .
Yes AP has had a couple blown tires. . He also ran for 2000+ yards after that blow out.
Yes he's 29..but Forte will also be 29 before the season is over.
And if either team will throw more now than they did last year, it'll be Da Bears now that they not only have 2 stud WR's, but will also have their starting QB back. Not entirely sold on the Vikes throwing more. Yes they need to get Patterson more involved, but whether it's Cassel, or rookie Bridgewater, they're really not in a position to change the run/pass ratio much, if at all. Besides, who's to say that even if they do throw a bit more. . Maybe more running lanes open up? Entirely possible.
Finally, the only true reason that I think it's a mistake is that this was standard scoring. All those receptions mean very little. And AP is a rushing TD machine, whereas Forte's rushing scores from last year are WAY out of line for where he's usually at.
Again, probably not a huge mistake, and in a PPR, Forte may very well be the right pick. . But I'd hitch my standard scoring Wagon to a perennial double digit TD workhorse over the multi tasker
Treff I didnt realize it was a standard league. That does change things. I agree that in a standard league AP would be a better option. Evben though I think they will be really close Steelerpride Im curious to the reasoning of going with Forte. Are you down on AP this year?
Forte has also had issues at the goalline. Which is why they brought in Marion Barber (didn't work), then Michael Bush (ditto). My guess is if the Bears choose not to lob the ball up to Marshall, Jeffery, or Bennett, then the rookie Carey will get a few shots. So Forte may rack up yardage, but may see limited TD.
As for AP, I think the addition of OC Norv Turner is huge. Even if Ponder/Cassel/Bridgewater is so-so, Turner's scheme should do wonders for AP, Patterson and Rudolph IMO.
I would have also gone with AP. However, it is the smallest percentage of error choosing between the two, as Forte had more points last year, so could do so again... but what Treff said about the rushing TD machine thing, and the Bears to be the more throwing team are the two biggest reasons I would draft AP (#2 overall, btw)
