I am certan for the D the ball has to be in the air for a PI. If you are saying it's different for the O that's fine......but how can you interfere with a pass that has not been thrown? That seems odd.

Technically you are right but for this conversation, we are talking about the same thing. It's called illegal contact if the foul is before the ball is thrown and DPI if the ball is in the air. The end result is the same.
