Well, in Denver's defense (pun intended) Von does seem to be overvaluing himself a bit...... I mean, is he REALLY that much more valuable as a player than JJ Watt or Justin Houston? I think (based on the comparisons) that $18 MM per is quite reasonable.

You have to listen in negotiations. He wants to be the highest paid Defensive player in the NFL - and the Bronco's offer is only $1.1 million a year away from that distinction. That's 5.5 million away - and he is asking for $20 million. It will settle nearer to the $5.5 million more likey. Over that the Broncos need to plan what they will do two years from now when Von's gone.

Trade him. He's a celebrity now and once he gets paid and his production falls, your screwed. Seriously though, he hasn't had enough stellar years to earn HPDP in the league. He could be on his way but maybe not. A gamble I'm sure glad I don't have to be in charge of.

Von Miller has a pretty strong case to be the "HPDP" IMO. He is the best player on the best defensive team that just won the Super Bowl. That's a solid argument in and of itself. However, it's kind of disappointing that he is insisting to be paid that way, because player contracts get skewed out of proportion on some teams, particularly if there is a "Best X" involved. When that happens, that team's out of control contracts affect other teams' contracts. He should just consider how important he is relative to his team. Von Miller certainly deserves to be the highest paid Bronco defensive player.

To me this is all just Von Miller's agent leaking information trying to force the hand of the team. I doubt they are that far apart as Elway knows what it will take to get it done and he isn't the type to try to completely lowball a player. I'm sure he has talked to Von about how keeping his deal under control is good for Miller in the sense of surrounding him with more talent and for the team in having more talent. In the end though where Miller's people probably requested the moon on day 1 but in the end they will find some common ground.
