My family used to take me to games at the United Center when I was a kid, because it was only an hour farther and much cheaper/easier to get tickets. Now I'd love to take my kids, but I don't want to have to explain to a six year old why a bunch of drunken bleacher bums are shouting "DATSYUK IS A FAG" at us.

Yeah, my wife and I go there a lot, but not with kids yet.

How are the crowds? Mixed bag? I haven't been back since the place was a morgue, I've heard some bad things.

"DETROIT SUCKS!"

...alllllll game long. They don't really fuck with me too much. Unless your loud after the Wings win.

They aren't the most creative bunch, are they? Maybe I will take the kids. They can handle a little "Detroit sucks" I think.

If you want a nice place to go to an away game, Pittsburgh is normally very nice. For the most part, I've never really seen home team fans be rude or inconsiderate to away fans. There's always a few that will be drunk, but almost always strike up a convo with away fans. This is clearly not for Loki, hahah. I really wanted to hit up Chicago when at school, but their tickets are horrific.

It's never a bad deal when your team does a weekend trip to play the Kings and Ducks. Especially if its a Friday Sunday - that gives you Saturday to rent a car and take a roadie to Vegas.

Go to a game against the Coyotes if they're playing them in Phoenix this year! Then I'll have an excuse to get off work!

Thanks for your suggestions/stories everyone. Keep 'em coming.

The problem with doing a Southern swing for me would be time. I could go for a weekend to catch a Tampa game maybe, but the max time I have for one trip is probably four days (take off Friday, Monday). That is definitely more of an issue than money.

Though I think I'm going to throw California back into the mix. I haven't really been West Coast.

West Coast is cool... Havent been, but it is on my list for hockey vacations. Prolly not this season but def the next. Its awesome because usually you play all three teams consecutively.

Columbus Is in a southern swing? Nashville gets cold in the winter also doesn't it? If I'm doing a southern swing, it's Hurricanes, Lightning, and Panthers for Bruins games. If I had the time and money, I'd do something like Montreal, Buffalo, Toronto, Detroit, Chicago, maybe Columbus. It would depend on the schedule.

I guess I wasn't totally clear on that ;)

I threw Columbus in there, because if you drive from Pittsburgh to Nashville, you pass right through Columbus, so why not stop for a game anyways.

Nashville does get cold-ish, but compared to Pittsburgh it's going to be pretty warm. It would be about the same as Raleigh normally.

I suggested those three too, because driving from Pittsburgh to Sunrise, FL is something like a 20 hour drive.

I think the rule is, if they say "y'all" and don't eat oatmeal, it's the south.
