Hey, everyone. I'm planning on making several weekend trips to see some away Pens games this year and was looking for suggestions on what cities I should go to. Obviously it's going to depend on the schedule since I can't take too much time off work. What are the best places to go?

I went to a Pens/Caps game in 2001, which was a lot of fun. Went to the Winter Classic in Buffalo, but really didn't get to see the city. I was in Toronto recently, so I probably wouldn't want to go there (getting tickets would probably be hard too).

So far, I am definitely making a trip to Philly. I would like to see one more Atlantic team (once again it depends on the schedule) and a few other teams.

Suggestions? Thoughts? Where have you gone to see your team play? Was it a good experience?

I've been to LI for a couple games... While the Mausoleum is a shithole, it is still a cool experience. Especially since it won't be there much longer I dont think. MSG is def a great place to catch a game, been there a bit. Aside from those, that is it for me. Well, the Civic Center in Hartford back in the nineties, but that is no more.

This season I am definitely planning on hitting Montreal. I'd love to do a Montreal, Toronto and Buffalo trip. If they don't all line up, then I will probably do a Pennsylvania trip and hit up both Pitt and Philly.

But of all the arenas I have been to, among all sports, nothing is quite like TD Garden and Fenway. There is some bias in there too :D.

I've been to MSG, but I've never seen a Rags game...I think you could get into some good banter with Rangers fans, loki.

I saw a Knicks game. Probably should go see a sport I actually care about there.

NBA is somewhat entertaining live... But I can not watch it on TV. My Uncle has season tix to the Celtics. I am not sure if I really did indeed have a good time watching the game, or if we were just so drunk that I thought I was enjoying it...

Either way, check out a NHL game at MSG.

Yeah, it wasn't bad really...something to see. I went on a high school trip. We all bought Knicks stuff before the game. Our section was the most into the game. lol.

I might see if I can hit up two of NJD, NYR, NYI in one weekend.

Thats the best way to do it... I am really hoping the B's play Montreal and Toronto, or, Montreal and Buffalo back to back next season. Even if it is in the same week, I'll just take a week off and make a road trip out of it.

Well, like any team/arena, depends on the opponent. I am sure you are looking for B's/Pens. They are prolly one of the pricier games. I've seen tix for those match-ups as low as 90 bucks. But on average, I'd say your looking at 100-120 bucks for that match-up, and that is for seats in the 300's :eek2:

Really hard to get tix to those games at face value. I am going to prolly get a 10 game plan, and hope to land a couple good ones.

Yeah, the Pens don't do the some games cost more than other thing so I'm not really used to it. I figured I have to do Stubhub or something. Another possibility I was thinking was going to see if I could talk to a B's season ticket holder on Craigslist or something who's making a trip to PGH and see if I can switch a pair of my seasons for theirs.

Probably won't have trouble getting Devils tickets...

Devs tix are easy and cheap.

If you have no luck with doing a season ticket swap, go with Aceticket. Thats where I get all my tix, they are cheaper than StubHub and they are located right across the street from the Garden for easy ticket pick up.

I would say Montreal would be a great place to check out, although I've personally never been to a game there yet. Toronto is good if you sit in the upper bowl (although you're probably not going there). I've been to MSG and Washington (Landover) for games and they were very atmospheric.

I hear there's some really great deals on Thrashers tickets these days.

Being serious though, a southern swing would be good in the winter, depending on how much time you have, how much you like to drive, and the schedule. You could hit Columbus, Nashville, and Raleigh for instance.

Not exactly the classic arenas and it is a bit of a haul from one to the next, but the tickets (at least in Nashville and Raleigh I know) are super reasonable because they're not selling out all the time. That's the same reason I used to enjoy catching Sabres games in ATL.

Columbus Is in a southern swing? Nashville gets cold in the winter also doesn't it? If I'm doing a southern swing, it's Hurricanes, Lightning, and Panthers for Bruins games. If I had the time and money, I'd do something like Montreal, Buffalo, Toronto, Detroit, Chicago, maybe Columbus. It would depend on the schedule.

CBus was so freaking awesome...but, not a typical away game atmosphere. Still fun.

Where have you gone to see your team play? Was it a good experience?

- Saw a Jets game in Winnipeg (Vs. Chicago) when I was a kid. great experience, I was a kid.
- Took a road trip in my early 20s. Flew to Toronto, rented a car, picked up a buddy in Kitchener, saw an Afghan Whigs concert in Detroit, went to Pittsburgh to see the Nucks at the Igloo. Got super drunk and obnoxious. fun times. Brad May noticed our enthusiasm, and asked us to stick around to express his appreciation for our support (it was at a time when nucks fans on the road weren't quite as common). So we waited around, he gave us some swag before they had to take off for the airport. So we were among the last out of the buildingg (had to leave through the players' exit), so we ended up singing some autographs on the way out. That was pretty funny. I forget what name I signed. We meant to go to Dayton, Ohio the next day for a Black Sabbath concert, but got snowed in. Ended up making it as far as Toledo, and saw an ECHL game there. Loads of fun.
- went to Calgary in April for the Nucks' last regular season game. That one was pretty epic, too. I do regret the last bar of the night though - well, i regret that my buddy had a client there who needed help doing damage to his expense account.

roadtrips are ALWAYS a great idea.

I'm thinking about hitting a Minnesota Wild game this year. Played a ton of tourneys in Minnesota as a kid and went to North Star games frequently. They're hockey mad up there.

My family used to take me to games at the United Center when I was a kid, because it was only an hour farther and much cheaper/easier to get tickets. Now I'd love to take my kids, but I don't want to have to explain to a six year old why a bunch of drunken bleacher bums are shouting "DATSYUK IS A FAG" at us.
