the guy that wants this site down, said yesterday that he feels good about landing kirven...said it on Kyle Bailey's sports talk show in Radford (the club house-super sports)

I've never felt very good about Kirven. Back when it was VT Bama, I thought it was a lot closer to 50-50 than Rivals was supposedly leading on. Now that I know one of his coaches, doesn't look very good for us. Kirven seems disrespected that some people on a board (I don't know which) think he is soft and also feels taken advantage of because people always assumed he was a VT lock. Also there are supposedly some rumors that his coaches are swaying him to Tennessee, and thats not true either.

The folks at volnation.com seem fairly confident they will get Kirven. But there are a few level headed one's as well...."People need to keep their expectations at a reasonable level. VT has always been the team to beat. He is visiting there this weekend. And he has said all along he wants his announcement to be a surprise. With all the momentum pointing in our favor right now, it would set up to be a surprise if he were to pick VT."

Lynchburg reporter knows the Brookville landscape. MT @nwartersLNA: Think #Hokies chances of landing Kirven are very good. Gut feeling.

Actually, I read somewhere (twitter I think) that his dad couldn't get off work?? <<-- is that a good enough citation?

It definitely doesn't sound like his parents, at least, are very interested in Tennessee..That's for sure.

Interesting number of Salemites here. I guess I'd be #3.

And the last 3 D1 commits were Schmitt, Haley and Parker. Light may be the 4th, though. Kid's got monstrous size for such a young age and very nimble feet.

I also have a good friend who coached Jackson and he told me he would be a beast. He described him as a "typical Notre Dame-type tight end." Said he would catch a lot of balls for VT.

Heard exactly some of the same things about Jackson. He looks to be more "physically ready" for college football than some of the other ones. A co-worker who is very good friends with a couple area coaches said Jackson has been referred to as possibly the "Second coming of J. King". I'm not kidding, that's exactly what he said. He committed way early in the process. His offer list would have been much better regionally if not for that.

Would Caleb/Ekanem/Mornhinweg really be much less of a monster close than Caleb/Ekanem/Kirven? Consider our position depth. Don't get me wrong, Kirven will be a monster and definitely should be a Hokie.

Hell, I think even Ken/Skyler would be respectable... Although it would be tough to see two high-profile "VT leans" head elsewhere.

caleb

i think caleb+anyone-else is a win .. if we lose caleb (esp to wvu), that's a fail. we need depth at wr .. and more playmakers ..

a QB in this class would be nice

I have kind of been sitting on this opinion until it looked like we definitely had him, but IMO, Ekanem is one of four guys who you could make an argument for as best overall player in the state this year. The other three in my opinion would be Caleb, Harold and Carter.

FWIW, Ekanem also is the most impressive interviewer... Loosely suggesting a very good head on his shoulders. He reminds me a lot of LT3 when questioned.

ive felt very good about ekanem all along. when we first offered him he was surprised but definitely was honored from hearing him speak about the offer. he seems like a great kid with a good head on his shoulders, and if we do get him as expected, it will be huge. i still think kirven and ekanem were more important than caleb because we need to continue to bring in top defensive linemen to build that depth and ability to compete against the big boys. caleb would be great, but i just feel like we need to continue bringing in top defensive line talent moreso than adding another receiver. that said, i hope we get all 3 for sure. just my 2 cents.

3-star QB Skyler Mornhinweg has still not made a college decision. #Stanford could be in mix now along with #Florida, #PennState, #VT.

Bryan_Holt Bryan Holt
#Florida coaches do not want to push Mornhinweg anymore and have negated any commitment deadline.

according to @JShankerESPN , Skyler Mornhinweg's head coach Gabe Infante says that Mornhinweg is "deadlocked" between #PSU #Gators and #VT

I have heard that Stanford is in the mix but on the outside. I personally think that VT and UF are deadlocked, I don't think he will go back to PSU after they got another QB recruit and (rumor has it) they asked him to play Safety. If he visits VT I think we will have a GREAT shot

He's a bit of a freak athlete. According to the Rivals FREE side, Dooley has the following measurables:

Ht:6'5"
Wt:230 lbs
Bench Max:365
Squat Max:450
Vertical:35 inches
GPA:3

He carries the ball really well...I'd opt for TE/H-back.

This is honestly his best chance of ever seeing the field @ VT.

I saw Dooley twice this year but was reluctant to post about it because i didnt want to seem like i was bashing the kid but here are a couple of quick thoughts.

*Seeing him pre-game (the 1st time i seen him) i was honestly concerned for the single A guys about to line up against him. His measurables are legit and i would guess his weight room #'s are also.

*ON DEFENSE: Dooley played a hybrid DE (stand up) in the 5-2 or MLB in the 4-3. With his size and speed i was expecting a guy who could really crash the ends @ DE or completely blow up a backfield as a blitzer, instead i saw a guy who was very timid and had trouble following the football with slightest bit of misdirection. I could only go on and on but i wont, lets just say that in my (know nothing) opinion he needs to develop a totally different mindset if he ever want to see the field (or 2 deep) @ DE.

*ON OFFENSE: He played RB (and some fullback although not in either of the games i watched). He seemed to play with a different mentality and looked really confident with the ball in his hands. He showed good patience behind the line and had a pretty quick first step for a guy his size. He is no slasher by any means but had enough change of direction to make a few guys miss in the open field. Even on offense he seemed kind of timid and didnt attack the LOS like you would expect from a guy his size.

*I dont know if confidence is the problem or what, but Dooley seems to have all the tools just not the mentality to use them. :noidea:

* Although i've never seen nor heard of him catching a pass or blocking a defender, i think Dooley would be best suited @ TE. He seemed far more natural with the ball in his hands than he did on defense.
