Yeah, that's the thing about the Vikes games is how they tend to keep it close. At least there haven't been many games that I have had to just change the channel and walk away.

I think Fred Pagac will be gone after this season.

The secondary and linebackers were pretty bad, someone needs to he held accountable for that.
Can't blame it all on Pagac, but obviously they're not ready for game time.

Wonder if they would hire from within, or try to find a proven d-coordinator

Vikings QB Christian Ponder ready to reboot, put benching behind himLexisNexis Feed

Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder finished Wednesday's practice with a friendly long-toss game with backup Joe Webb on the field, followed by a Nerf basketball shootout with defensive tackle Fred Evans in the locker room.

This jovial side of Ponder was far removed from his solemnity in the second half of Sunday's 34-28 loss to Detroit as the freshly benched Vikings rookie watched Webb rally the Minnesota offense.

With arms crossed and face blank from the sidelines, Ponder clearly was disappointed with Sunday's four-turnover performance, his worst game to date.

But Ponder said he agrees with coach Leslie Frazier's decision for the benching, which the first-year coach attributed to performance and Ponder's hip pointer that limited his practice time during the week.

"Obviously I was hurting the team more than I was helping," said Ponder, who will start Sunday against New Orleans. "Joe had a great week of practice, and he was prepared. I was excited for him to go in."

Webb led the offense down the field in each of his three drives, including two touchdowns and an 18-play, 79-yard drive that stalled at the 1-yard line on the final play of the game.

Frazier has made it clear that Ponder is still the starter and the Vikings will find alternative ways to get the athletic Webb on the field.

Ponder said he's spending this week working on ball security after averaging an interception every 16 passing attempts in his past four games. After three interceptions in his first three starts, Ponder has eight picks in his past 126 passes.

Before the Detroit game, Ponder offset mistakes with heady play and impressive downfield throws. But his decision-making was off all day in Detroit, and he threw at least six passes that were intercepted or had a chance to be. Ponder looked hesitant because of the hip injury, especially with an across-the-body interception early in the second half that ultimately got him benched.

The Vikings entered the Ponder experiment expecting mistakes, but he is now on the clock to show he can correct them in time to ensure the franchise he's the cornerstone of a rebuilding project.

Frazier said Ponder has handled the situation "extremely well," carrying a business-as-usual attitude entering Saints preparation.

Regarding Ponder's status with the Vikings, wide receiver Percy Harvin said, "He's still the man."

"We'll be better for (the mistakes) as he continues to grow in the position," Frazier said. "He didn't seem to have any problems in practice. He seems really be in tuned with this ballgame and moved on from last game."

Ponder quickly found out the NFL is about results - "It's all about performance up here," he said - but this wasn't his first benching.

In 2008, Ponder's first year as a starter at Florida State, he was benched during a 45-15 loss to Tim Tebow and the Florida Gators because of injuries and interceptions.

He's learned not to take it personally, even though it's difficult.

"Can't let it keep me down," Ponder said. "I've got to go out and practice even harder this week to get better."

If Ponder has his way, he won't have to experience Sunday's struggles again.

"You never want to be on the sidelines," Ponder said. "The way I was playing, that's how it goes

That sounds great. Good to hear stuff like that. I was hoping people wouldn't suddenly start jumping on the Webb for QB bandwagon again because like they say, Ponder is the man. Seems like he has a good work ethic, is a team player and obviously a smart guy.

Now if we can just get AP (not you ap) going again we might just have a chance of winning a couple games.

That would be sweet!!
They would need to jam the receivers to disrupt the timing,,,and get to Brees quick. He gets rid of the ball so fast, and he's accuarate as hell.

ponder has been taking a beating the last few weeks .. hell of a way to start your pro career. no mentoring and just getting thrown out there right after the strike and no training camp .. I say he has done pretty well .. your O line is worse than ours.. I would say keep ponder as the starter
