I wanted him over Steve Kerr in Golden State after Mark Jackson was fired. Great I was completely wrong on that one.

I thought he had a bunch of talented teams in Detroit but never got them to where they needed to be. Add to that he had player control issues, and that he pretty much hurt himself here.

I don't know if he should get another head coaching opportunity before some of the up and coming coaches. I hate re-treads for the most part unless they get a raw deal along the way.

I'm very glad that they pulled the trigger on this. He made some bad player moves and has failed to develop players. He has, unfortunately, left them with no picks and no cap room to work with either. If they can stay healthy the Pistons could be decent, but won't compete for a championship and have little flexibility to do so. I think the coaching hire is more important than the GM hire for this year unless they can get a miracle worker. I've said it before and I'll say it again, hire Laimbeer. Or maybe Hammon (at least as the top assistant).

VanGundy is where he belongs; kicked to the curb. He shouldn't get another shot (though he will if he wants it) and he should never be an announcer with the gaspy, raspy voice of his.

Be thankful that you didn't get him or Mike D'antoni

Detroit may have messed up by not making this decision earlier. Now Fizzdale is off the board. I think Detroit would have been better served with FIzz, and I think FIzz would have been better served going to Detroit.

Oh well.

hey @Mecca, can we have a take-back on the Griffin trade now that we will have a real coach?

I think it took so long because they were trying to keep VanGundy as coach and just step down as GM. It doesn't make sense since he proved he can't coach these guys and has hamstrung the team so it doesn't make a difference who the GM is.

No Sir!!!

Plus, fingers crossed that we also get your first rounder and it turns out to be Colin Sexton.

:poke:
We're winning the lottery and our new GM will come out smelling like roses:suds:

Yeah, that was a desperation move to trade for Blake.

But, maybe things will play out better next year with a healthy Jackson.

Yeah, he should have relinquished that GM role and tried to repair his reputation as a Coach.

Doc did that and now Ballmer is giving him a fricking extension.

Fuck my life.

Stan lost his mind somewhere along the line. Some of the dumb shit he said just made me scratch my head. For instance, last year he accused the NBA of loading the Knicks up with home games early on so they would have a good record which is what the league wanted. The truth was, the Grammy's were at MSG and when that happens there can be no home games for about 3 weeks. The Rangers in hockey were scheduled the same way, for the same reason, it wasn't a conspiracy. Then he started seeing race issues with everything and orating on that.

Sounds about right considering we are the Clippers.

Luka?
I think they would have to go Luka with their needs.

Like I said in the coaching thread, I still think he's a fine coach but the president/coach role rarely if ever works out. It's just too much power and the ability to pick players bleeds over too much into the actual coaching. I think he'll spend a year or two at ESPN. I think they'll try to pair him up with his brother a lot. That was going to happen when the Magic fired SVG, but David Stern, in typical Stern being a dick fashion, stepped in and prevented ESPN from doing it because he didn't want those two to be critical of the league. So he'll wait it out on TV a couple of years and wait for a better situation.

The Pistons should hire a coach who who has a long history and great winning percentage. (>57%) Also, a coach who has coached two of the best big men in NBA -- that's important to get the most out of Drummond & Griff.
