Bobby Hurley to Va Tech?

Well, Hurley would probably be a way to ensure the recruits don't bolt, but he's had only one year of head coaching experience....guess that is more than JJ had though. So Hurley only has a one year contract at Buffalo with no buyout?...maybe Weaver is consulting on this hire.

If they tweets are true, I'm sure they didn't have anything left in the tank come game time because they were run into the ground during practice. There is a time and place for intense conditioning but it isn't in the middle of the season.

Too bad they can't deduct the funds still being paid to Greenberg from Weaver's consulting contract. He did some good things for football, but he sure stepped in it with the Greenberg/Johnson debacle.

This, from the Virginia-Pilot: "When Greenberg blamed Johnson's departure on Clemson's willingness to pay better, then-Virginia Tech athletic director Jim Weaver fired Greenberg and then gave Johnson his first head coaching job."

I'd like to think that's not the case, but it sure does look that way.

The worst part is that I think JJ's a decent coach, but maybe a few years away from being a decent HEAD coach.

We may be getting Malek Harris to switch from Marquette to VT tho.

That's a shame. He definitely showed some potential towards the end of the season. Trevor Thompson always seemed soft to me too. Of course now he'll probably go become a stud somewhere else.

Trevor was soft, he wasn't physical but he was also very skinny for his height and needed to fill out. Its a shame to lose him. I feel like there is more to the story about the phone going off and Buzz saying what he said than the article says.

I'm not really bothered by this. Williams is a proven recruiter and this is part of the business. Our basketball team isn't good now. He will make it better and get better players to come.

That phone story sounds like total bullshit. I don't doubt that it happened but I highly doubt Buzz Williams "doesn't like him" based off that. He just met him. He hasn't had time to like or hate anyone. But if a phone going off in a meeting (which is disrespectful) and getting called out on it is enough from Thompson to decide to leave, then he's making the right choice. Because Buzz is pretty hard-nosed for player discipline. I doubt Thompson would be able to handle it if he couldn't take something so small.

It's a shame though. Thompson has some skill and Buzz would have been a great coach to cultivate it. Oh well. I ain't worried at all. Like everyone has said, Buzz can easily get a replacement, likely even a higher rated recruit. I wouldn't be shocked at all if he stole a 4-star guy in the late season recruiting period

My thoughts exactly. If somebody can't handle getting in trouble for being disrespectful in a meeting then more power to them to leave. I'm sure calling him "soft" stuck with him and steered him away from Marquette during his initial recruiting process. No guy wants to hear that, but sometimes the truth isn't what you want to hear. I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up being a pretty good player, but if the situation isn't right it was probably for the best to part ways and start with players Buzz wants (and players that buy into his philosophy).

Bummer to lose any players but Hokies will be better off in the long-term. JJ was a reactionary hire to keep Seth's recruits. That didn't work and we ended up with a short roster and a mediocre coach. I figure now we have a good coach so all that is needed is time for Buzz to get things lined up.

So what are the odds of Malek Harris coming to Blacksburg? He never signed his LOI last fall, right?
