In the end, Isner didn't have to work all that hard to win. Pospisil imploded.

Good for John!

Isner not doing great against Pospisil. About to start the 3rd set.

Big John has played A LOT recently, and I can't imagine how he wouldn't be tired. A loss wouldn't be all bad because he'd be a little fresher going into Cincy next week.

Now that I think about it I think this is the reason why John basically never make it out the 3rd round of the open. He plays far too many tournaments leading up to the open and to make matters worse he typically make a deep run in most of these tournaments

So Kyrgios said something disrespectful to Stan during a change over about Stan's girlfriend. What a dick he is.

I really can't stand that fucker

Holy shit Donald Young eliminated Berdych in straights

Youngs fitness has improved quite a bit over the last 6 months. If he gets his confidence back he could be a contender some day.

Young has always had great fitness. The issue has always been an issue of strength of his strokes, particularly the forehand and serve. He's just not a big guy and those shots have never been weapons. He's had mental issues which have hurt his career at various points, but the truth is that his ceiling likely isn't that high. If he can stick in the 40-60 range for a few years, that'll be a solid career.

As for Kyrgios, I love it. Tennis is about to have a issue with a lack of names and personalities. By the end of 2017, the two biggest names in tennis history will be gone. Djokovic and Murray will be around 30 and will start to be subjected to early losses. Kyrgios' act sells. He just got six minutes of press on Sportscenter. You don't have to like him, but if more people tune in, it helps the sport, which as is, has major money issues (the amount of money the people ranked 101-200 make is truly shameful; It should at least double).

Anybody who thinks Kyrgios is awesome is a child.

Anyhoo, anytime Nole gets to Sock's backhand, he gains control and can pretty much just start running Sock side to side.

All about if Sock can run around his backhand a lot, and go up the line with the forehand on the ad side of the court. If not, this will be over soon.

Nole is playing at a ridiculous level right now. His defense and returns have always been elite, but I can't remember a time when his shotmaking was at the level at it is now. Even on the run, you get the impression that he can place his shots wherever he wants.

And as for Kyrgios, I won't root for someone with his behavior, but he certainly adds intrigue to matches. The guy gets a ton of press, and even if people hate him, they will tune in to watch him lose. The Mayweather model clearly works, and unlike Mayweather, Kyrgios' game is very fan-friendly. He has the potential to be the biggest star in tennis in 3-4 years, and tennis is a sport that needs stars.

Kyrgios made a comment about a 19 year old girl's sex life with a countryman of his, and did it directly into mics that he knew were there. He intentionally made sure to say it to mics, and Wawrinka didn't even hear it until after the match. He was too far away.

You are a fucking child if you think that's great, end of story.

Back to blocked.

Anyway, watching Murray play Muller right now. Murray still not playing anywhere near his best.

To some extent, I don't care if other people like what I watch.

As long as I like watching the sport, that's what matters.

And if there's some people like on this forum that are fun to chat with, then good. A few people is a good amount.

Having TV ratings grow, and having more people on social media, like 30 daily posters, isn't necessary.

The problem in tennis is a money problem. Bjorn Fratangelo is having by far the best year of his young career. He is the #9 ranked American out of millions of competitors. He is consistently competing against high-level pros, and is now ranked #116 in the world.

Do you know how much money he has made this year? $62,000. That's it. And that does not consider the cost of a coach and cost of travel. When you throw that in, the #9 ranked American tennis player is barely making a profit. It's beyond despicable. The #9 ranked American in every major sport makes millions. Hell, the top players of stupid hobbies likes Darts or Magic:The Gathering make that type of money.

It's a problem. And we will see more and more kids avoid playing high-level tennis. It is expensive as hell to make a hobby, and the chance of making that money back, even if you are a superstar junior, is nil.

Tennis needs to monetize itself or risk losing out on the top level talents that make diehards like us watch them.

tough test for isner, but nice to see him take the opening set against kyrgios.

i don't even dislike kyrgios much. he's a kid, and kids do stupid things. anybody who gets behind what he did last night and thinks it's anything approaching good is beyond stupid, though.

he's an amazing talent, and i have little doubt eventually he'll put it together upstairs and be a force a majors for the next 8-9 years.

viewership is down in the US, but tennis is the number 2 sport in the world.

an australian acting like a punkass bitch isn't going to increase tennis viewership in the US.

i love competitive fire, and wish there were more players who displayed it openly, but that's not what we're talking about in this instance with kyrgios talking shit about nothing to do with tennis on the court, nor in his "i give up" pathetic performance at wimbledon. no rational adult would ever think that stuff is great for the game.

love it when decent people who love tennis come on here, though. it's a nice tennis board.
