The Redskins have moved DE Trent Murphy back to outside linebacker.

The move was necessitated by Junior Galette's season-ending injury shaking up the Redskins' front seven. The Redskins need more depth at linebacker. Coach Jay Gruden says Murphy will still see snaps up front. Murphy hasn't developed as a pass rusher, and had packed on over 20 pounds as he prepared for his move to end. He's reportedly already back down to 275. Whatever his position listing this season, he might really be a man without a position.

RK and PS are 265-270 range so this is about right for Murphy to go to OLB. These guys lose weight fast. Does this mean that the OLB position should be finished with these three and Bates? Does this mean an extra DL spot opens up? IF we keep 7 dline man Hood could slide in there.

versatile yes. Valuable? That is questionable right now. He does have a shot of making an impact this year as a rotational OLB. Im curious to see if he is in there on 3rd and longs. Cravens should be as staple on 3rd downs along with Compton.

How productive was he when Smith entered the lineup? Even before Smith he wasn't productive. I the Galette injury doesn't help him now than I don't know what will.

Never mind that he was more productive for this team last year than Gallette, and likely will be more productive this year as well. Lord help us if Murphy actually ends up starting after gaining 15 LBS over Smith.

Compared to what the cowboys have drafted over the last 5-6 seasons in the second round...i'm digging the production of our 2nd round pick.

Wait a minute. The Galette injury doesn't help Murphy get more playing time? Murphy will see a lot more playing time this year b/c of Galette's injury.

Look, Murphy has some value to the team as a back up OLB. Because he doesn't have much burst or explosion, he will never be a starter at OLB but because of length and ability to play the run, he does have value and can help in certain situations. Galette has not played a down for the Skins and likely won't so why bother discussing him anymore until he actually does. I don't think Murphy will be a difference maker on game days but he won't be the player that causes you the game either.

In this case Galette has to be discussed b/c if he didn't get hurt Murphy would of had a very limited role with this team. Murphy would of stayed at DE. With Hood having a good camp you didn't really know what was going to happen to him. So Galette's injury increased Murphys playing time. Some of you don't want to admit this.

Because of Juniors injury Murphys stock went up. He has value at each position now. Not sure if his injury gave him more game time (though it probably will) but it gave him a free pass on making the team. More than likely he makes it anyway,,, just assures him now.

Trent moving back to play OLB doesn't make him a bust or a superstar to me.

Just makes him versatile and therefore useful for depth at a position you can't have enough players for.

That's not a bad thing at all.

I'd certainly rather have another option than going back to something that didn't seem a good fit for him the last 2 years.

But health matters and so far this looks to be the best option. So far.

Personally, this situation reminds me of Kory. No one else has stepped up enough to take the position out of his hands. He's the best we've got there...for now at least.

Can't imagine Scot won't be looking for more speed at this position as teams cut rosters. Gotta hedge your bets until something better comes along tho.

Of course it gave him more game time b/c there was more depth at De than OLB.

No he wasn't. You are referencing some stupid article from some pinhead that doesn't know anything about the Skins.
