Ugh, when you look even closer at Benson, the more he stinks

If you watch the games, you can can see he is not very good. But, somehow people think he 'does his job' he 'has been productive' and he 'runs hard' or 'he leads the Bengals in 100 yard games'

But actually. he does nothing well

Last Year he fumbled 7 times and lost 5 of them, he cant catch, he cant break long runs, he cant make ppl miss.

More telling, He has 975 Rushes as a Bengal in 49 Games.

In all those rushes and all those games, he has a TOTAL of 17 rushing Tds

- So he averages a TD once every 3 games, or a TD every FIFTY SEVEN rushes. That is so bad, also when you realize his YPC as a bengal is about 3.7

I may have to change my stance. Obviously I was way off base.

You have to look at the bright side. Bengals paid nothing for him. Didn't blow a first round pick on him. Also not locked into a long term deal with him with money that will force the Bengals to take a cap hit to get rid of him. This is his last year with the Bengals.

I'd say Benson is okay. He's not well served by his O-line. He doesnt turn the ball over. If he hits the hole he's got pretty good excelleration. He just doesnt seem to have much shiftiness and is not a play maker. For as much flak as Scott gets, in his start he should've been dropped for a loss several times (had to make a few people miss just to get 3 yards). Seems to be way more instinctive than Ced.

Not sure any of our running backs are that great. Ced is good for knocking a few people over and getting the occasional first down. Scott provides a change of pace, although, he seems to have lost some speed. Leonard has been clutch, but it seems we're afraid to give him a chance. Peerman runs around like a mad man, but can't seem to find a hole, and seems to get tackled easy.

The Bengals have this rep as having a great run blocking o-line, we need to try something else with the running game, this won't work against good teams.

I'm tired of hearing announcers talk about our running game. Cincinnati is 11th in the league in carries, but 22nd in yards, and 28th in the league at 3.7 ypc as a team. That's awful. We're a horrible running team.

We're a horrible run blocking team with serviceable running backs hence a poor running team. Behind a strong O-line I have no doubt that the bengals stable of Rb's could be productive.

Our offense doesn't help this either. We rarely ever run screens for our backs. We never call a play for our back to catch one coming out of the backfield. We never run 2-back sets with a combination of Benson, Scott, or Leonard. By design the defenses don't have to pay any attention to our backs aside from run plays. For a team that likes to consider itself a "run offense" that is unacceptable.

I love the old "Pro Set" with both backs lined up behind the QB, but next to one another about 5 yards deep. A lot of misdirection and combo plays can be run from that set.

17 TDs, almost 1000 rushes.


In 50 Games, Benson has 1 game with 2 Tds.
