it was reported even before the contract details and Jenkins subsequent blow up that the Rams were going to tag Johnson. so, I don't think Jenkins actions forced the Rams hand when it was already reported prior to those events.

also, Tru could play with the tag this season and go into FA next offseason if he doesn't sign a long term deal, but he runs the risk of injury/decline in play hurting his value as well.

he may have the upper hand right now with the tag being applied to him, but if he chooses to gamble ( ala Jenkins ), he could end up hurting himself in the long run.

it really is in the best interest of both parties to get a long term deal done.

I don't know if it has been mentioned, but Johnson did receive the "non-exclusive" franchise tag, which carries a lower salary value. Other teams can still pursue him, but at a cost of 2 1st rounders (which means it won't happen).

If Jenkins was insulted by a 5/$45 contract, think of how he would have reacted after getting hit with a tag.

That is true shopson I would like both the CBs to be signed but if I had to chose one, I want the bigger more physical guy to guard the big WRs in this league. Jenkins will get paid by someone maybe even the Rams, but if he does go somewhere else Grimes is in the wings.

I understand the delays in teams talking to Jenkins. You folks do understand that people with sources are already stating teams are not lining up to talk to Jenkins. Maybe I should have been more clear in my OP.

Off topic Retro, when you say OP it obviously means something different to me than you because I consider it to mean Original Poster (Of the thread)
OP means 'original poster' in discussion forums. The original poster is the person who started a discussion thread, and OP is used to refer back to that person as the responses grow.
and since bluepigpen started the thread I am lost in reference to what you are actually talking about, however I would like to follow along.

Would you fill me in?

I think Retro meant his original post.

I thought that too, however maybe it's just the original post on the topic because I've gone back and his original post had no association SE. Maybe it has a totally different meaning... :noidea:

Vita, as long as I have been here on the SportsHoopla, OP has meant Original Post that is the near the beginning of a thread. The OP I referred to above at post 45 was a reference to an OP at post 23, page 2. My first OP, Post 13, page 1, was a comment on Jenkins perceived value by only himself. Coug and others questioned the second OP, Post 23, page 2 (of which I should have delineated in addressing Coug and others about about the day 5 rule). So, I think I lost some folks.

If we were going to tag one of them, glad it was Johnson. We can now work out a long term deal with him. I have a feeling Jenkins just might be back as well with his tail between his legs after turning down a MORE THAN FAIR long term deal...

The Rams will be moving on to Barron and McCleod and the rest of their FAs I am sure. Jenkins is going to return looking like the egomaniacal greedy little dumbass that he suddenly has become. I think right now he is wishing he took the MORE-THAN-FAIR offer the Rams put on the table.

Some of these guys lose what they have learned in previous years in the league and in Jenkins' case, he let an egomaniacal agent convince him to walk. The man simply is not that good and he surely is not as good as even the Rams offer which was exorbitant to begin with.

I think it would be funny if no team offered him more than the Rams did, he tries crawling back and the Rams tell him that offer is no longer on the table.

That would serve him right after what he has been saying on Twitter.

Karma baby!

Would be nice, but most likely to be the most overpaid.

I like it. If Tru has another "almost" pro bowl year, then lock him up.. If not, lock him up for cheaper.

I would normally agree with this. However, other teams see these tweets too, and you have to believe it might give some pause about what kind of character this guy has.

He's going to get paid. No doubt about that.
