According to HoopsHype- BEFORE the Tristan Thompson signing- the Cavs had the highest payroll in the NBA- slightly edging out Oklahoma City- at just slightly under 95 Million.

These are the salaries of all NBA teams this season

Now - with the signing of Thompson- the Cavs payroll jumps to 111$ million. Let me say that again

111 Million in JUST PAYROLL (not tax).

The highest payroll in NBA history previously was paid by the Nets in the 2012-13 season at 102 Million.

The only other team to surpass even 95 million in payroll in LEAGUE HISTORY was the 2010-11 Los Angeles Lakers with a payroll just under 100 million.

Dan Gilbert has stepped up more so than any other owner in LEAGUE HISTORY to field this years team that is the favorite to win the title. No team in the history of the NBA has had an owner THIS COMMITTED- and its clear that LeBron considered this when coming back to Cleveland after having perceived cheapness from Arison. (and seriously- was Arison "cheap"? IT DOESNT MATTER- all that matters is what LeBron thought- and LeBron saw several of the moves that are well documented both on this site and on the internet and felt that his owner was not committing at the same level he was- and that MATTERED in a big way when it came time to make his choice.)

With Shumpert out and Irving still coming along- itll be good to get another guy back- and seriously- that front ocurt depth is OUT OF THIS WORLD....

Love
Mozgov
Thompson
Varejao
Kaun
James Jones a a fill in stretch 4 once in a while

CANT WAIT TO GET THIS PARTY STARTED ON MONDAY!!!!!!

SO GLAD THE Cavs held out and didnt cave in. Like I said- Rich Paul couldnt just take 80 and totally lose face- but this signing CLEARLY shows that the Cavs did the right thing in standing firm to their offer.

Contract slots in reasonably well with the money guys like Valuncuinas, RLopez, EKanter, DCarroll, Green- (or Barnes turned down) - no way did Thompson deserve max money or was there anyway that Gilbert was going to give Thompson max money.

unexpected. I thought this would go on and on- but it appears Thompson probably went to Paul and told him just to get it done. So glad that is behind the Cavs and they can be a little bit closer to a full roster for opening night.

Paying a backup PF that can only rebound that much money? Soooo overpaid.
obviously you failed to watch the playoffs since the Suns missed them- not only that- but you haven't seen what comparable talents are signing for in the league- or even what they are turning down.

What else can Tristan do well besides rebound?

one of the very best in the league at defending/switching the pick and roll and keeping guards in front of him because of his agility and quickness- which is an absolutely awesome thing for a big to have in todays league where everything is pick and roll and where so many bigs get thrashed in the pick and roll.

I mean did you watch the playoffs? Did you see how great he was at finishing the pick and roll at the rim and playing off of Irving and LeBron?

Did you notice how the defense immediately went from being decent to becaming the best in the playoffs when Thompson and Delly started playing over Love and Irving?

I mean- sometimes I wonder if you guys watch the league

Jonas Valuncuinas- 4 years 64 million- 16 aavg

Draymond Green - 5 years 82 million- 16.4 aavg

Enes Kanter- 4 years 70 million - 17.5 aavg

Robin Lopez- 4 years 54 million- 13.5 aavg

Harrison Barnes- TURNED down 4 years 64- 16 aavg

REggie Jackson- 5 years 80 million- 16 aavg

Wesley MAthews- 4 years 70 Million-- 17.5 aavg

Brandon Knight- 5 years 70 Million -- 14 aavg

Thompson- 5 years 82 million- - 16.4 aavg

ALL of these deals were signed this offseason. (or not signed)

While I certainly think- and have written on this board MULTIPLE MULTIPLE times- that the Cavs are paying a premium for Thompson because of the circumstances (the fact they cant replace him if he leaves since they are currently over the cap, the fact that he was probably the teams 2nd best player in the playoffs, the fact the cap is going up in a huge way, the fact that LeBron wants him here - etc. etc. etc.)

I am just glad they stuck to their guns and gave him basically the same exact deal they offered him on July 1st since it was VERY VERY fair both now and back then. Great call by David Griffin to stand firm and call Rich Paul's bluff.

The Roster is finally done. I dont see them making significant moves like last season unless an opportunity is presented that is too hard to pass up- or if they run into issues- which i dont foresee....

PG- Kyrie Irving, Mo Williams, MAthew Dellavodova.

The point guard position is both elite and deep.. Irving is among the best in the league with his 3 pt shooting, handle, playmaking, clutchness and offensive ability. Mo Williams played very well last year and proved he can still score and hit the 3 in a big way and be one of the best backup PGs in the NBA (if not the best). BOTH of these guys had games of over 50 points last year. Delly is the perfect change of pace guy- who still shoots very good from 3 (40%) while playing scrappy defense. Is this the best PG group in the league? If not- it has to be close

SG- Iman Shumpert, JR Smith, Joe Harris-

Great depth and versatility at this position. Shumpert is a very good defender, Smith one of the elite streak shooters in the league. Joe Harris is a developmental guy. The Cavs can play multiple ways depending on whether Shumpert or Smith are in.

SF- THE King, and Richard Jefferson.

- LBJ- still simply the best player in the league- and while AD is on his heels- AD has no clue how to win like LeBron. Richard Jefferson looks like he has a lot more left in the tank than Marion did last year.

PF- Kevin Love, Tristan Thompson, James Jones

This group again is both elite and deep. Kevin Love is one of the best players in basketball- a 3 time all star that is just 27 years old - one of the games best offensive players and rebounders. All Tristan Thompson did last year was be the 2nd best player on the Cavs during the post season where he played great D, rebounded like a mad man, played like a workhorse. James Jones is strictly a matchup guy to stretch the floor at this point. Does any team in the league have a better/deeper PF position? If there is- it has to be close.

C- Timofy Mozgov, Anderson Varejao, Sasha Kaun-

Again- a very deep position- all though lacks an elite player. Mozgov really played great last year and was exactly the thing the Cavs needed- a rim protector that gave a lot of toughness to the team. Varejao has develped his game to be very nifty under the basket, a decent 15 footer- and shares a mind with LBJ and Irving while working the pick and roll. He is a very good rebounder- especially on the offesnive end, - not a good rim defender though. Kaun compliments Varejao well- he is going to be a liability on offense- but on this team- who cares?- he should be an asset in the limited minutes he gets defending the rim, and palying tough- reminds me VERY much of a big man Delly.

Just glad Thompson is in camp- and the roster is finalized. This roster feels so much more finished then last years roster did at this time. AT THIS TIME LAST YEAR? The Cavs starting lineup was- Irving, Waiters, LBJ, Varejao, Love. This roster is a lot more ready to go- and the Cavs can work going forward knowing that which is important.

i dont know how you can deny that if you watched the playoffs last year.

Expert analysis agreed that the one thing Tristan is really good at is rebounding but hey you know it all
