Barton: “The Conservatives aren’t gaining anything so far.”

Ian: “Here is the vote share in Ontario and the Conservatives are now polling 3% better than the Liberals. They lost by 9% here in 2015.”

Barton: “As you see the Liberals are pulling away.”

We could be in a scenario where one of the Conservatives or the Liberals win the plurality yet both party leaders are gone.

I can’t imagine many Liberals want the Justin sideshow to go on through another election campaign that would likely come in the next 18-24 months, can you?

It was just 3 weeks ago that cpc insiders were already talking about peter mckay as a Scheer replacement

/they should have made Craig Berube interim cpc leader at that point :thumb:

You wouldn't think so, but it's tough to say. People have short memories.

By my count Tories grabbed maybe 3 seats in the 905. Which is basically what the polling said and not nearly enough.

Might as well have brought Doug Ford out. His first year in office was, kindly, a train wreck but if there’s one thing he can do it’s campaign.

Nenshi keeps saying AB’s “always been the economic engine of Canada”.

Alberta’s GDP is $330 billion. The city of Toronto’s is $330 billion.

I honestly have no idea if proportional representation would be a better system than our current one but there is a glaring, inexplicable disassociation between how people are voting in this country and how many representatives they are electing to Ottawa.

Further, considering that while there have been plenty of "majority" gov'ts over the years only twice since WWII has the winning party actually carried over 50% of the popular vote (Diefenbaker in 58, Mulroney in 84).

There needs to be a better way.

They are not a happy patch of gophers in Alberta. That said, the #wexit hashtag is not exactly full of quality material this morning.

Alberta votes the exact same way every single time and then are surprised when none of the parties seems motivated to cater to their needs. To be fair Trudeau's buying of the pipeline was a misguided effort to appease Albertan voters.

I don't understand why they are confused by any of what goes on at the federal level

Meanwhile the CPC does very little to appeal to non-Albertans, outside of assorted rednecks.

Finally, I don't understand what conservative Albertans expected to happen if Scheer was elected. Trudeau is NOT the impediment to the TMX. That is the court system, which would not change with a Scheer election.

I think Andrew Coyne on the CBC election panel hit it on the head last night, the problem with Scheer and the Conservatives' approach is that they seem content on trying to gin up their base thinking that's going to be enough to win the election instead of expanding their base. I'm thinking the majority of voters in Ontario and Quebec think of the Conservatives as a rural/Western based party and the results from last night seem to bear that out.

Some good tidbits here, including that Trudeau’s team knew the blackface story was coming out two weeks before it did and the campaign did ask David Axelrod to get Obama to endorse him (Axelrod worked on Dalton McGuinty’s first campaign in Ontario with Gerald Butts before going to work for Obama).
