Its our favorite time of year besides the Stanley Cup Finals, tomorrow is the trade deadline so I say we come up with our favorite mock trades and say why it will benefit the teams involved and then we can discuss on how much of a homer people are (probably including myself)
Rangers trade Callahan to the Sharks for Tomas Hertl
It benefits the Rangers because they will get a young center who can score. He will also be cheap which will help with their cap. Also we will need someone who can replace Richards and the team doesn't have that much Depth at Center
It benefits the Sharks because they have always been a high powered offense but lack the toughness and Grit needed for a Stanley Cup run. Callahan will help them physically against the tougher teams like the Kings Ducks and Blues.
This one has a pretty low chance of happening but this is suppose to be fun.
Carl Haglin, Dylan Mcllrath and a first round pick to the Lightning for St. Louis and Sami Salo or Eric Brewer
Why it works for the Rangers they will get the scoring they desperately need in St. Louis and defensive depth they also need. Also rumor has it St. Louis has asked for a trade and prefers the Rangers because of the close location to his offseason home.
Why it works for the Lightning They get a younger player in Haglin to replace St. Louis. Haglin has tons of potential but hasn't developed into the offensive force he can be maybe a change of location and working with a guy like Stamkos will help him realize that. Mcllrath provides a young d-man again that has yet to come into his own but has played good defense in the AHL but has never developed the offensive game you want. Plus incase Haglin doesn't develop into a top winger and Mcllrath is just another Rangers first round bust they will have a first rounder to offset those loses.
That would be my game plan for the March 5th deadline.
